Nostalgic Scrubs reboot “feels like home” and ‘does justice to original’ according to first reviews

Early reviews are positive for the new Scrubs reboot, with critics especially happy to see the original cast – including Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, and John C. McGinley – return. This is the first new season of the medical comedy in 16 years.

Things are different now – both medicine and the interns have evolved – but the strong friendship between JD and Turk remains as solid as ever. The new episodes follow both familiar and new characters as they experience life at Sacred Heart Hospital with humor, emotion, and a few unexpected twists.

The new Scrubs series is getting positive reviews before it even airs on ABC next week. As of today, it has an 87% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 15 reviews.

According to TVLine, the show’s return feels authentic and is what fans have wanted since the last episode featuring Lazlo Bane’s appearance on Scrubs. They highlight the return of the original theme song, but emphasize that the show’s emotional core is back as well.

According to Collider, the creator of the show, Bill Lawrence, didn’t try to drastically change things for Season 10. Instead, he focused on the elements that made Scrubs so popular and long-lasting – its humor, emotional depth, and strong friendships.

While many enjoyed the show, not all critics were impressed. Variety magazine noted that Scrubs feels comforting when viewed through the lens of nostalgia, but its age becomes more apparent when watched today.

Ken Jenkins, who played Dr. Kelso, and Neil Flynn, known as the Janitor, aren’t expected to be in the new version of the show. However, Zach Braff has said he’s hopeful they might appear if the show gets another season.
