Makeup-free Cameron Diaz, 53, is seen on casual solo outing in NYC amid Charlie’s Angels reboot buzz

Cameron Diaz was seen out and about in New York City on Wednesday with very little or no makeup on.

The actress, 53, was spotted enjoying the city after recently meeting up with her old co-star Keanu Reeves at an Apple event. She stayed warm by dressing in layers against the cold weather.

This news follows the recent announcement that a new Charlie’s Angels movie is being developed, with Drew Barrymore’s production company involved.

Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore both appeared in the 2000 film Charlie’s Angels and its 2003 sequel, alongside Lucy Liu.

The celebrity was seen wearing a black sweatshirt, loose-fitting sweatpants, and a black puffer jacket on a recent outing.

She also put on black boots and styled her blonde hair in a simple bun.

She slung a cross-body bag over her shoulder and comfortably carried a pair of slippers in her hand.

Diaz added a pair of mini earrings as well as stylish shades to accessorize her outfit.

The Hollywood Reporter announced earlier this week that a new Charlie’s Angels movie is being made.

This project is a new version of the popular 1970s television series that originally featured Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith, and Kate Jackson. After Fawcett left in 1977, Cheryl Ladd joined the cast.

Cameron Diaz starred with Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu in the 2000 film Charlie’s Angels, which also featured Bill Murray and Sam Rockwell.

The updated film performed very well in theaters, earning $264.1 million despite costing $93 million to make.

Three years after the first movie, a second film called Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle came out, and Demi Moore joined the cast. Cameron Diaz played the character Natalie Cook in both films, which were released in the early 2000s.

A TV show started on ABC in 2011, but it was quickly cancelled after just four episodes because not enough people watched it.

Kristen Stewart, Ella Balinska, and Naomi Scott appeared in a third film together in 2019, but it wasn’t successful in theaters.

Drew Barrymore’s production company, Flower Films, is producing the new movie. The script is being written by Pete Chiarelli, known for his work on films like Crazy Rich Asians and The Proposal.

An official cast for the upcoming reboot has yet to be announced, as well as a director. 

McG directed the films released in 2000 and 2003, and had mentioned wanting to work with Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu again in a future movie.

As a creative professional, I’m often asked about potential reunions, and when I spoke with Entertainment Weekly last year, I explained that bringing back those three incredibly talented actors would require a really in-depth conversation with them. They’re all people I have a huge amount of respect and affection for, so it’s not a decision to be taken lightly!

The filmmaker said they might have one more truly captivating story to tell, if the right chance comes along.

I’m incredibly grateful to those three. They really launched my career and supported me when I was just starting out as a director.

He publicly thanked Drew Barrymore for her past support, and went on to say that she, along with the other two performers he mentioned, were uniquely talented and irreplaceable. He described them as truly special individuals.

Cameron Diaz has been gradually reappearing in the public eye, most recently starring in the Netflix film Back In Action, which was released in January 2025.

It had been her first film project in 10 years after she took a lengthy break from Hollywood.

She spent several years focusing on raising her two young children, six-year-old Raddix and one-year-old Cardinal, with her husband, Benji Madden.

I was really concentrating on that at the time. Aside from being a mother and going about my daily life, that’s all I was focused on,” she explained in a Netflix interview for the movie Back In Action.

That’s really all there is to it. I’m just focused on surviving and taking things one day at a time, like any parent.

She’s currently working on several projects, and that includes returning as Princess Fiona in the upcoming Shrek 5.

According to IMDB, the story centers around a mother trying to keep a simple promise to her daughter while dealing with the worst day of her life.
