Food Network star Anne Burrell left ‘suicidal note’ and journal entries before shock death aged 55

Following Anne Burrell’s unexpected death last year at age 55, investigators found a note and diary entries suggesting she was considering suicide.

I was devastated to learn about Sarah’s death. Her husband, Stuart Claxton, found her at their home in Brooklyn on June 17th, 2025. It was later determined that she had taken her own life, and the news in the following month was just heartbreaking.

The New York City medical examiner determined the cause of death was acute intoxication, a result of combining the antihistamines diphenhydramine and cetirizine with amphetamine and alcohol.

According to a new report from the New York City Police Department, a note suggesting she was considering suicide was found in the master bedroom of her home. A journal with similar entries was also discovered on the bed, as reported by People magazine.

According to the document, Anne’s husband – whose name has been removed – informed police that Burrell had no history of suicide attempts or discussions about suicide, and hadn’t shown any indications she was considering such an action.

As a lifestyle expert, I always admired Chef Burrell’s ability to connect with viewers. He was a real favorite on Food Network, known for hosting ‘Secrets of a Restaurant Chef’ and for his hilarious and heartwarming role co-hosting ‘Worst Cooks in America.’ He truly had a gift for making cooking approachable and fun!

According to a recent police report, when Burrell was discovered deceased, her husband stated that the bed was made – something he found unusual.

Claxton found her unconscious on the bathroom floor surrounded by medication. He tried to wake her by shaking her and slapping her face, but when that didn’t work, he called 911.

According to New York Times reports and NYPD records, around 100 pills of various types were found near her body when she died.

Emergency responders attempted CPR, but unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to reports, Claxton was with her around 1:00 AM the night before. He found her unresponsive in the bathroom roughly six to seven hours later.
