After a lengthy and sometimes difficult planning process, Gordon Ramsay has revealed the extensive renovations he’s completed on his £7.5 million London home.
The famous chef, age 59, is giving viewers a tour of his stunning home in a new Netflix docuseries. The show reveals how he renovated the property, starting in 2022.
In scenes from his new six-episode series, Gordon revealed his kitchen renovation, transforming it from a dark green space into a modern design featuring dark wood and sleek marble.
He and Tana originally purchased the property in 2002 for £2.8 million.
Gordon Ramsay’s kitchen features large glass doors opening onto the garden. This garden was included in a major home extension project.
Gordon previously announced plans to completely remodel his ground floor by building a modern, glass-walled extension. This new space will be an open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area.
The living room, seen in interviews with Gordon’s family during the documentary, was filled with large bookcases and had dim, cozy lighting.
Gordon and Tana had to move out of their house in 2022 so it could be completely renovated.
The couple have six children: Megan, who is 27, 26-year-old twins Holly and Jack, Tilly, 24, and their younger sons, Oscar, six, and Jesse, two.
Now valued at £7 million, the house has been updated several times over the years. Improvements included adding a small building to the garden and, at one point, even building a temporary pen for pigs.
The council approved plans in July 2021, estimating the renovations would take from September 2021 to December 2022. However, the extensive work – which involved both an extension and major structural changes – actually continued until 2024.
He reportedly lived in a high-end apartment at the new Battersea Power Station, which cost around £12,000 per month.
When the family came home in 2024, they learned that Gordon had successfully fought for permission to install new security gates.
In documents lodged with the local council, Gordon asked for new timber ones instead of steel.
The planners working with Gordon stated the updated gate designs would better fit the surrounding area and improve the look of the historic neighborhood.
His family home is located in a protected area known for its beautiful buildings and historical significance. Because of this, there are strict rules about any changes or new construction to help maintain the area’s unique look and feel.
In 2021, he received approval to make significant changes to his London home, which included installing steel gates.
In February, city council members rejected an initial request for a small adjustment to a building project. These types of requests, called ‘non-material amendments,’ are for very minor changes.
They requested a revised application because the proposed changes would affect the protected conservation area.
When the application was first reviewed, officials stated that the suggested changes were significant enough to require a new planning application or a modification to the existing one.
Following a review of a revised request, officials confirmed the new timber entrance gates would match the height and style of the previously approved gates, as well as the gates at the neighboring property.
We approve of the planned changes to the entrance gates because they won’t negatively impact the historic character of the area.
The new gates will be designed to match the style of a neighbor’s gates.
Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe what Gordon Ramsay is doing to his London house! It’s already HUGE, like, seriously multi-million pound huge, but he’s completely renovating it! I read he’s putting in a wine store – can you imagine the collection?! – and get this, the master bedroom is going to take up an entire floor! It’s insane, absolutely insane, and honestly, I’m living for it. I need a tour, desperately!
He also wanted to remove a brick pattern from his front garden wall.
Gordon’s extensive property transformation included adding 76 square meters to their family home.
The celebrity chef’s basement includes space for an extra bedroom with its own bathroom, a home office, a room for storing plants and equipment, a mudroom for shoes and coats, and an additional shower room.
The basement design featured a glass well to bring natural light into the house.
The chef redesigned the ground floor of his South London home, tearing down the existing structure to build a modern, glass-walled extension. This new space will combine his kitchen, living room, and dining area into one open layout.
Gordon has renovated his home extensively, including changes to the ground and lower levels, a complete overhaul of the second floor, and the addition of a new wall and garage.
The chef’s representatives explained that the proposed plans would improve the house’s layout, making rooms larger and better utilizing the available space.
Work on the building’s addition began in September 2021, but because the property is located in a historic district, workers have had to rely on hand tools for certain parts of the renovation instead of power tools.
A Purple Beach tree stood at the front of the property, and it’s legally protected. The garden also contains other trees with protected root systems.
The survey recommended that demolition and digging be done by hand, using simple tools instead of machines. It also stated that construction workers would need a training session on how to avoid damaging the trees during the work.
The famous chef met with his neighbors to discuss the major construction project. His team then stated in official plans that they had spoken with the residents and hadn’t received any objections.
Gordon previously won planning permission to erect two super-trendy ‘igloos’ at his London home.
In 2019, the chef submitted plans to build log cabins in his backyard to provide extra accommodation for visiting friends and family.
Each of the high-end cabins costs £40,000 and features three windows and a small door. They’re built with spruce shingles and plywood strips on the outside.
Inside, these high-end pods offer all the comforts of a small apartment, including a complete kitchen, a comfortable double bed, electric heating, a shower, storage space, and both electrical outlets and a TV connection. They’re built in Estonia and then transported to the UK.
Gordon is joining David Beckham and Guy Ritchie in a growing trend: adding unique, dome-shaped huts – sourced from Estonia – to their rural properties in Oxfordshire and Wiltshire.
He and his wife, Tana, along with their four grown children – Megan (25), twins Jack and Holly (23), Matilda (21), and Oscar – live in an eight-bedroom Victorian house with two small cabins, nicknamed ‘Model 4’, situated facing each other at the far end of the large garden.
The council approved Gordon’s plans, but he needs to schedule a visit from tree experts to inspect the trees on his property.
In 2022, Gordon sold a house in Cornwall for £7.5 million, making it likely the most expensive property ever sold in that area.
A six-bedroom house called Daymer Bay House in Trebetherick, complete with a swimming pool, tennis court, and set on 2.5 acres of land, was sold last March. The buyer had originally purchased the property in 2016 for £4.4 million.
Gordon, age 57, is opening five different restaurants inside the 278-meter-tall 22 Bishopsgate building in central London. This process is being documented in a six-part series, and he has a £20 million budget for the project.
It also gives a sneak peek into his personal life with his wife Tana and their six children.
