Slow Horses fans! “Riveting” crime thriller with a veteran detective is on TV tonight

The crime thriller Curfew continues tonight on Channel 5. The series started this week and centers around an experienced detective working with a new partner to solve the murder of a young woman.

I’m diving into this case in a really strange world. Basically, there’s a total curfew for everyone, and all the guys are being tracked with ankle monitors – supposedly it’s to keep women safe. It definitely adds a weird layer to the investigation, figuring out who’s really doing what when everyone’s movements are being watched.

Tonight’s new episode will be shown on Channel 5 at 10pm. The full series is also available online and has quickly become the most popular show on the channel’s streaming service.

Featuring Sarah Parish (known from Stay Close), Mandip Gill (Doctor Who), Anita Dobson, Lucy Benjamin and Bobby Brazier (EastEnders), Larry Lamb (Gavin and Stacey), and singer Alexandra Burke, Curfew originally aired on Paramount+ in 2024.

One IMDb viewer described the show as a captivating drama, praising its many unexpected twists, strong acting, and fast-paced plot. They were thoroughly engaged from beginning to end, highlighting the show’s stylish production.

Someone else said it really made them think, and they loved the mystery, a couple of unexpected twists, and the performances from all the actors were great!

Another reader said they loved Curfew, noting that they’re a big fan of near-future dystopian stories. They particularly appreciated how the book built its world, preferring to show the details of the setting rather than just tell them through explanations and conversations. They wished more stories took this approach.

I was reading a review on Digital Spy, and they made a really interesting comparison. They said DI Pamela Green, the main character, reminded them of Jackson Lamb from Slow Horses. Apparently, she’s the type who doesn’t bother with the rules, always thinks she’s right, and generally isn’t having a good time – kind of like Lamb, honestly!

Yes, Curfew does touch on familiar ideas about femicide, murder, and women’s safety. However, it’s also a stimulating work that doesn’t shy away from making strong points about the widespread problem of violence against women.

Curfew airs and streams on Channel 5.
