Relationship expert Alessandra Rampolla, from Married At First Sight, has been very direct about what’s happening during Intimacy Week on the show.
Alessandra, 51, who is currently in Puerto Rico and receives episodes ahead of time, described this year’s Intimacy Week as particularly challenging, perhaps the most so in recent years.
‘I think it’s one of the most interesting intimacy weeks we’ve had in a little while,’ she said.
Intimacy Week affects each couple uniquely, as we’re seeing with the variety of relationships and how intimacy changes throughout them. I’m really looking forward to seeing how it goes for everyone.
She acknowledged that existing disagreements between the brides could cause significant problems during the week.
She explained that if you don’t prioritize your relationship, it will naturally struggle.
It’s fascinating to see how people’s interactions begin to affect their connections, especially considering that’s why they came together in the first place.
Rachel Gilmore and Steven Danyluk experienced a setback when Steven unexpectedly distanced himself during a crucial moment meant to bring them closer.
Alessandra described the situation as ‘a really interesting’ turning point.
She said they’ve both been incredibly brave and honest with each other, really stepping up and being open about their feelings.
They’ve clearly formed a close bond. Considering they’ve been living together and sharing a bed for a few weeks, suggesting a kiss isn’t a particularly bold step for a couple exploring a potential marriage.
She explained that if there’s a connection between two people, but one person doesn’t reciprocate, it often becomes just an observation – particularly when they’re specifically trying to build a closer relationship.
I’ve been following Julia and Grayson’s relationship closely, and it was really interesting to hear Alessandra’s take on things. Grayson recently confessed he feels like everything revolves around Julia’s needs, and Alessandra really seemed to get what he meant – it’s a tough spot for both of them, honestly.
Julia was definitely the one leading the relationship, setting how things moved forward,” she remembered.
It took Grayson a little while to say something, but after a few weeks he realized he didn’t feel comfortable there.
It’s vital to respect personal boundaries in any relationship, but it’s just as harmful to change who you are to fit your partner’s expectations.
As a longtime believer in healthy relationships, I’ve always thought it’s so important to pay attention to what your partner is comfortable with and to absolutely respect their limits. It’s just fundamental, you know?
However, it’s also important not to compromise who you are, what you need, or what makes you happy just to please someone else. A healthy relationship involves finding a balance that works for both of you – it’s about compromise and discussion.
A major trend this season has been couples prioritizing physical attraction, and Alessandra certainly embraced that, not shying away from showing it.
‘Yes, absolutely, the sex fog is real,’ she said.
Strong initial sexual attraction can be incredibly distracting. It’s easy to ignore serious problems in a person or relationship when you’re caught up in the excitement and physical pleasure, and swept away by those intense feelings.
Viewers have noticed strong connections between brides like Gia Fleur and Stella Mickunaite, who openly discussed their instant chemistry. However, Alessandra shared that the couples actually had more meaningful conversations behind the scenes.
She explained that what was shown on TV didn’t tell the whole story, and they revisited the question of whether the issue was simply a physical one.
Some relationships start intensely but quickly fade, while others develop more slowly and become very solid. Ultimately, it varies depending on the individuals involved and how they navigate their connection.
She also explained why some people in the study, such as Rebecca Zukowski, seemed to downplay their own feelings and needs, even when they were clearly upset.
According to Alessandra, people crave acceptance, affection, and the feeling of living a storybook romance.
Sometimes people sacrifice their own well-being in pursuit of their goals.
According to the expert, it is a ‘delicate dance’ of give and take.
She explained that healthy relationships require giving your partner space, freedom, and comfort, while also ensuring you have those things for yourself. It’s important not to be self-centered.
When it comes to being friend-zoned, Alessandra believes confidence plays a major role.
‘A confidence issue can absolutely friend-zone someone,’ she said.
As someone who really follows this closely, what frustrates me most is seeing a lack of genuine effort. It’s so obvious when people don’t truly commit, and honestly, both the audience and those of us who know what we’re talking about definitely notice it. It’s a shame, because you can tell when someone hasn’t even tried.
Alessandra maintains that the way the show is edited accurately represents what occurred during filming, and that the edits haven’t been unfair to anyone involved.
‘I think what we’re seeing is absolutely accurate,’ she said.
It’s true that some things are always overlooked, but I believe everyone has been treated fairly and with kindness throughout this process. Honestly, it hasn’t been more difficult than what we all experienced firsthand.
Honestly, I’m completely captivated by Alessandra! It’s amazing to me how she manages to film Married At First Sight and still keep up her incredible career traveling the world. She’s seriously a powerhouse, balancing everything so effortlessly – I don’t know how she does it, but I’m here for it!
‘I had a career for 20 some years before arriving in Australia,’ she said.
‘I’ve just added Married At First Sight to my roster.’
Now splitting her time between Australia and Puerto Rico, she says beach life keeps her grounded.
She explained that living near the beach in both Puerto Rico and Australia is a key part of how she maintains her well-being.
She acknowledges that while she’d rather cast members didn’t reveal plot details while the show is on, she recognizes how things work with media today.
She expressed her hope that both the show and its audience could enjoy experiencing the story as it unfolds. While she doesn’t like spoilers, she recognizes they’re common in today’s world.
As for her future on the show, she remains open.
‘Australia has become my second home,’ she said.
