As a lifestyle expert, I’m following the news about Jason Oppenheim and Jessica Vargas, and I want to clear up something I’ve been seeing a lot of speculation about. While they did recently decide to go their separate ways after about a year together – it happened at the beginning of February – it wasn’t due to differing views on having children. That wasn’t the reason for their split, despite what you might have heard.
Two months before publicly announcing their breakup to the Daily Mail, Jason Oppenheim, 48, and the founder of the Oppenheim Group, simply said ‘no’ when asked on the Pretty Dirty podcast if they planned to have children.
‘Yeah, that’s another reason why we super connected,’ the 39-year-old real estate agent added.
We just really connected and agreed on everything, it felt like. We both had strong opinions – I didn’t want children, and I wanted to live life on my own terms – and we discussed it a lot, going back and forth with our feelings.
Interestingly, Oppenheim said they were aiming for marriage, even though he’d previously told Vargas he wouldn’t consider getting married until he was in his 60s.
‘You don’t need 60 years with someone,’ the fifth-generation real estate broker explained.
Back when people typically married in their late teens or early twenties, life expectancy was much lower.
Historically, people often expected marriages to last ‘until death do us part’ because life expectancy was much lower – around 55 years. Today, with people living longer – around 60 years or more – that expectation has shifted.
Oppenheim and his ex-girlfriend, known for her red hair, were in Honolulu last weekend for a wedding. He shared on Instagram that they still care for each other and remain close friends. She posted a similar message, saying she loves him and hopes everyone can find a friendship like theirs.
The former attorney shared with People magazine on Sunday that his relationship with her is the most important thing to him. Vargas added that they deeply care for each other and plan to remain close, emphasizing their strong connection.
The owner of Floral LA Fairy said he’s a wonderful person with a very kind heart, and she’s thankful to have him in her life.
Oppenheim and Vargas, though they live in separate homes, first appeared as a couple at the premiere of The Accountant 2 on April 16th. They then confirmed their relationship on Instagram five days later.
Just last month, on January 9th, the California resident publicly marked 365 days since their first kiss and expressed their intention to continue the relationship.
Viewers of Selling Sunset may remember that Jason Oppenheim and Chrishell Stause broke up in 2021 because they disagreed about having children.
Despite undergoing multiple rounds of IVF treatment with their spouse, G Flip, the 44-year-old actress and real estate agent is still not pregnant after five years.
The musician, 32, described a difficult time filled with mixed emotions, telling People magazine last September that it felt like a cycle of small victories overshadowed by significant setbacks, with fleeting moments of optimism quickly followed by disappointment.
Ultimately, it’s important to support one another and maintain your connection through difficult times, striving to emerge stronger as a team and avoid damaging the relationship or anyone involved.
G Flip added that they sympathize with anyone struggling, especially friends who are going through tough times, and described the situation as really heartbreaking and bleak.
Before his current relationship, the UC Berkeley graduate previously dated several women, including Nicole Young in the early 2010s, Mary Fitzgerald Bonnet from 2014 to 2015, and model Marie-Lou Nurk from 2022 to 2023.
A representative for Oppenheim stated that Vargas works as an independent contractor for his firm and has never been a cast member on Selling Sunset.
Adam DiVello created the popular Netflix series Selling Sunset, which has since expanded to include spin-offs like Selling the OC, Selling the City, and Selling Tampa.
This successful real estate professional, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, has closed over $3 billion in sales and operates offices in West Hollywood, Newport Beach, San Diego, and Cabo San Lucas.
