More than a month after she was found deceased in a San Francisco hotel, authorities have determined the cause of death for Victoria Jones, the daughter of actor Tommy Lee Jones.
A 34-year-old person was found unconscious on the 14th floor of the Fairmont Hotel in the early morning of January 1st.
The San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed on Tuesday that Victoria’s death was an accidental overdose caused by cocaine toxicity, according to a recently released report.
Victoria, who generally kept to herself despite being the daughter of a famous actor, is survived by her father, 79-year-old Academy Award winner Jones, her mother Kimberlea Cloughley (and Tommy’s former wife), and her brother Austin Jones.
Following the announcement of her passing, the family asked for privacy in a brief statement. They expressed gratitude for the support and kindness they had received, and requested that people respect their need for space during this challenging time.
Just two years before she passed away, the actress known for her role in Men in Black asked the court to grant her a temporary conservatorship to safeguard her daughter.
Court records reviewed by the Daily Mail show that Alex Jones filed a legal request on August 7, 2023, to become the legal guardian of Victorria.
The Marin County Superior Court confirmed to the Daily Mail that Tommy filed in Probate Court.
The reasons for filing aren’t publicly available, and details from medical records and related statements are being kept private.
When the documents were filed, the San Francisco Chronicle reported that Victoria was in a Greenbrae hospital on a 14-day psychiatric hold. Authorities had determined she might be a risk to herself or others.
The news source also mentioned that Tommy’s legal request stated his daughter was challenging the legal block and asked a conservator to move her directly into a drug rehab program as soon as she was released.
Okay, so after that initial win – the judge actually approved what Tommy wanted! – he then did this totally unexpected thing. Apparently, he went back to court and asked them to just drop the whole case! I read it online, and honestly, it was such a shock. Like, he got what he wanted, but then decided he didn’t need it anymore? It’s so…Tommy!
The docket shows the judge officially terminated the conservatorship on December 18, 2023.
After Victoria’s death, concerning information about her last few months came to light, including interactions she had with the police.
The Daily Mail obtained a June mugshot showing what appears to be a bruise under her eye.
In 2025, she was arrested twice. The first arrest occurred in April when police in Napa Valley performed a welfare check and subsequently charged her with driving under the influence of drugs, drug possession, and resisting officers.
When she was booked, authorities found a plastic bag with a white powder, suspected to be cocaine, in her pocket, according to court records.
She pleaded not guilty and had been scheduled to appear in court later this month.
In June, Victoria was arrested once more after a domestic disturbance at the Carneros Resort and Spa in Napa, where rooms cost about $500 a night.
Court documents reveal she was also accused of elder abuse, but she denied the charges in court.
Victoria was found at the Fairmont Hotel after a guest thought she seemed unwell and notified the staff.
It was a really scary situation at work today. We found a colleague unresponsive, and immediately started CPR while someone called 911. When we spoke with the emergency dispatcher, we described it as a serious overdose with the person’s skin changing color – a sign things were critical. We’re all hoping for the best.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, officers responded to a hotel on Mason Street around 3:14 a.m. on January 1, 2026, after receiving a report of a death.
When officers arrived, they found paramedics already at the location who confirmed that a woman had died. The Medical Examiner then investigated the scene.
Victoria was born in 1991 and started her acting career at age 11 with a brief appearance in her father’s film, Men in Black II (2002).
I remember when she really started gaining recognition – she had a role on One Tree Hill in 2005, and that same year, she was even in a film directed by her father, The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. It was a special moment seeing a father-daughter collaboration shine on screen!
Even after she stopped acting professionally, Victoria would sometimes accompany Tommy to public events, such as the 2017 premiere of Just Getting Started and the Tokyo International Film Festival that same year.
In a 2006 interview, Tommy complimented Victoria’s acting skills after working with her on a film, noting she was a talented actress and fluent in Spanish.
The actor won his only Oscar in 1994 for The Fugitive, which he starred in alongside Harrison Ford.
