The Spice Girls ’30-year reunion Netflix drama is axed amid ongoing tensions between the girl band’

Reports suggest the Spice Girls have cancelled their plans to reunite due to increasing disagreements within the group.

The Spice Girls – Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Mel B, Mel C, and Geri Halliwell-Horner – planned to celebrate their 30th anniversary with a special project on Netflix.

Sources say Geri, 53, is undecided about participating due to increasing friction with Mel B, 50.

Mel B, also known as Scary Spice, didn’t attend Emma Bunton’s 50th birthday party last month, though the other three Spice Girls were there.

Mel B wasn’t at the recent Spice Girls get-together at Victoria Beckham’s house – a casual evening of singing “Viva Forever” over dinner – as she was enjoying her honeymoon in Mauritius with her husband, Rory McPhee.

A source revealed to The Sun that fans will be heartbroken. The show, which has been in the works for years, needed the band’s full cooperation. Unfortunately, the streaming service hasn’t yet given the green light because that collaboration hasn’t materialized.

Just because something might happen eventually doesn’t change the fact that the show was primarily created to commemorate a significant anniversary.

‘Now all hopes of that happening have been snuffed out.’

Suzanne Mackie, the producer behind the popular show The Crown, was working on a new project. Jack Rooke, a Bafta-winning writer known for the comedy series Big Boys, was writing the script.

A documentary about the band, famous for their 1996 hit single “Wannabe,” was reportedly being developed with Netflix, though this hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.

Daily Mail have contacted Netflix and The Spice Girls representatives for comment.

Victoria Beckham recently reunited with her former Spice Girls bandmates online for an Instagram singalong, marking her first public performance with the group since she decided not to participate in their 2019 tour.

Despite recent family drama involving her son Brooklyn, Victoria Beckham reunited with her former bandmates to sing at her London home, marking 30 years since they first formed.

Mel B has hinted at a possible Spice Girls reunion. She recently expressed interest in getting the band back together and seemed to acknowledge fan excitement about it online.

As the women harmonized, Victoria’s son, Cruz, played guitar. His girlfriend, Jackie Apostel, age 30, was seated at the table, and the family’s chefs observed from the kitchen through glass doors.

Romeo, 23, playfully commented on a family post, writing ‘Sounds like this has happened before!’ His brother, Cruz, chimed in, jokingly comparing the situation to the pop group Little Mix.

Victoria seems to be suggesting she might join the band, as she recently shared a video of herself performing an acoustic version of one of their most popular songs.

David Beckham, age 50, seems to be enjoying the renewed attention around the Spice Girls. He shared a heart emoji on a new video posted by his wife. This comes shortly after his son, Brooklyn, removed tattoos dedicated to his parents, including the word ‘Dad’ from his arm.

The ladies have been teasing the fact that something is in the pipeline for some time.

Mel C recently discussed the possibility of a Spice Girls reunion during an appearance on Good Morning America, where she was promoting her new album, Sweat.

Hoping for the best, she said she’s still positive about the future. Next year will be their thirtieth anniversary. They toured in 2019, playing some amazing shows in UK stadiums.

We’re incredibly proud of everything we’ve achieved and it’s amazing to see new generations discovering and loving the Spice Girls. I’d really love to perform with the girls again.

We’re exploring potential options, but we’re being careful. We want to be absolutely sure any new direction is the right fit and that we all agree on it before moving forward.

Mel also confessed she still hopes the Spice Girls will get back together, and this time she really wants Victoria to be part of it.

She described being a Spice Girl again as an incredible experience. She felt that because so much time had passed, they were all fully engaged and truly understood how much their reunion meant to their fans.

It was a truly wonderful experience. We were finally able to relax and fully appreciate every moment. It makes me emotional just thinking about how much I’d love to repeat it.

Mel B hinted at a possible Spice Girls reunion following Victoria Beckham’s recent chart success with her 2001 song, “Not Such An Innocent Girl.” This comes after her son, Brooklyn, made some harsh comments, causing a public stir.

Scary Spice was seen liking a clip about the band getting back together.

In a clip from the podcast ‘Shouldn’t Laugh But…’, host Laura Smyth proposed that Victoria could help manage the negative publicity surrounding her son’s comments by reuniting the group.

Mel B’s recent activity online sparked excitement among fans, leading many to believe a Spice Girls reunion might finally be happening after years of speculation.

In a podcast clip, Laura told Victoria directly, “The only way you’ll recover from this public relations disaster is…”

Just three words: a Spice Girls reunion. It’s going to be huge, and I really want you to be a part of it. I’m not talking about just four of them performing – I want the original five members back together.

Mel B and Geri are said to have had an ugly falling out which has scuppered new projects.

Okay, so I’m hearing things – and honestly, I can’t even believe it – but apparently Geri just completely messed up a massive TV deal for the Spice Girls! Like, a deal that would’ve given each of us a million pounds?! I’m absolutely gutted! How could she?! I was already planning what I’d do with my share… it’s just… devastating. I’m so obsessed with the Spice Girls and this feels like a personal blow, honestly.

According to sources, a major falling out between Geri and Mel B created so much tension within the band that they struggled to find a manager who could effectively help them get things done and move projects forward.

The conflict started in 2019 when Mel revealed on Piers Morgan’s talk show that she and Geri had a brief romantic relationship during the band’s popular years in the 1990s.

Geri insisted the affair never happened, and Mel was accused of fabricating the story to boost sales of her memoir, ‘Brutally Honest’.

Victoria had previously stated she wouldn’t rejoin the band, emphasizing her commitment to her fashion career and pointing out that her time with the Spice Girls had only lasted about four years.

I was so fascinated to read in Vogue Germany about why she chose to sit out the 2019 Spice Girls tour. She explained it really took a lot of bravery for her to make that decision and not join the other ladies on the road. It showed a lot of strength, honestly.

Simply being able to say, “I’m choosing not to do this because my circumstances have changed,” is powerful.

She explained that she’d prefer to focus on her family and business, adding that at 45, she’s content with who she is.

Victoria did however confess the idea of a Vegas residency is one that appeals to her.

I’ll never forget what Victoria told Andy Cohen on the radio last year. She said that before the Spice Girls, she really struggled with her self-confidence. Being in the group made her feel accepted and like she truly had something to offer – it was like they gave her the confidence she needed!

While I enjoy performing on stage, I’ve realized it’s not what I want to focus on long-term.

She joked that she wasn’t even sure she could sing anymore, admitting she’d never been a particularly strong vocalist. While the idea of performing was appealing, she knew a world tour was out of the question—she has a job to consider.

‘How good would the Spice Girls be at the Sphere? I love the idea of it.’

Victoria recently shared in her Netflix documentary that David convinced her to participate in the 2007-2008 Spice Girls reunion tour, and she felt pressured to do so.

She said: ‘David was like, “It’s really good for the kids to see you do this.” He mum-guilted me!’

She appeared to be feeling sentimental in November, sharing a simple, acoustic video of her singing ‘Viva Forever’ with Cruz.

Victoria’s most recent performance with the band was at the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony. Before that, she toured the world with them in 2007 and 2008.

Geri left the band in 1998 in the middle of their world tour and on Mel B’s birthday.

In 2018, Mel shared on the show Loose Women that she was deeply hurt and her fellow Spice Girls were upset when Geri decided to leave the group.

She was upset that her friend was leaving on her birthday. It wasn’t just that her friend was going away, but that she didn’t come to her to talk about it first. It really bothered her that she wasn’t confided in.

I truly value her as my closest friend, and I have strong bonds with all of them. What upset me most was that she didn’t feel comfortable enough to share what she was going through with me. She simply withdrew and disappeared from my life.

Mel explained that they looked everywhere in the hotel for her, but she was nowhere to be found. It turned out she had already booked a flight and returned to England.

The group didn’t realize Geri was struggling with a severe eating disorder. Mel explained that Geri felt trapped and saw no other option but to leave. While understanding her struggle, Mel also admitted to feeling frustrated because the show had to be completely reworked.

We couldn’t find her anywhere, and we started to worry something terrible had happened, like a kidnapping. Everyone was really panicked. It turned out she’d simply flown back to England. After that, we immediately started working hard to reschedule the show, and I was trying to reach her by phone the whole time.

Mel explained the band was initially unaware of the actual reason for what happened. He added, ‘We only learned the truth much later.’ He also noted that everyone handles stress and difficult circumstances in their own way, and he personally wouldn’t have acted as someone else did.

‘So I do understand it but it makes me go, “Oh”, a little bit.’

The former X Factor judge explained that they had resolved their issues over time, recently mentioning, ‘We’ve talked things through over the years.’

She explained that she felt trapped and didn’t want to appear happy when she wasn’t. I can definitely relate to that feeling.

That friendship was really difficult for me. I even spent my birthday wondering where she was, it was heartbreaking.

She continued: ‘In a weird way it made us closer, we got to understand each other more.’

Mel said her and Geri didn’t speak for a while as she was ‘angry and sad’ at her departure.

It felt like weeks passed. We continued with our tour, but I immediately became upset, quickly followed by deep sadness. Everyone was just trying to cope with the situation.

Everyone coped with the situation differently. As a group, we really value our close bonds and supporting each other, so it was upsetting to realize one of us felt so overwhelmed that she needed to step away.

Honestly, when they asked Mel if she’d feel any different looking back, she was so firm! She just said ‘No,’ and then doubled down, saying she’d still be totally heartbroken and offended. It’s amazing – even now, she feels the same way, and it makes me love her even more! She’s so real.

When Geri left the band, it made international news, and the group eventually took a break two years later.

The Spice Girls became incredibly popular in 1996 with the release of their first hit song, “Wannabe,” which topped the charts in 37 countries around the world.

The girl group topped the UK charts nine times and released two albums that reached number one. After Geri left, she started a successful solo career, achieving four number one singles in the UK.
