JFK Jr’s hunky love rival kept Carolyn Bessette coming back for more… now we’ve found silver-haired Baywatch star on a bus bench

She’ll forever be remembered as the cool, enigmatic blonde who captivated John F Kennedy Jr. 

Before becoming famous as John F. Kennedy Jr.’s wife, Carolyn Bessette was passionately involved with a Calvin Klein model. He was a rising star, with his image featured on massive billboards in Times Square during the mid-1990s.

I remember when Michael Bergin was the guy – so handsome! For a little while, he and Carolyn Bessette were absolutely everywhere, the couple everyone was talking about. But ultimately, she fell for John F. Kennedy Jr., who, let’s be honest, was pretty amazing himself – People magazine even named him their sexiest man alive! It was a real fairytale romance, and it’s easy to see why she chose him.

Now, 56, silver-haired and bespectacled, Bergin’s face no longer towers above Manhattan. 

The Daily Mail has discovered that David Hasselhoff can be found advertising on bus benches in Studio City, California. He’s successfully transitioned from acting – famously known for Baywatch – to a career in real estate, working alongside his wife Joy, 55, and raising their two children.

He’s recently returned to public attention because a new FX drama is revisiting a complicated love triangle from his past – a relationship that began over thirty years ago.

The new drama, Love Story: John F Kennedy Jr and Carolyn Bessette, features a character named Bergin, played by Noah Fearnley, who competes for the attention of Carolyn Bessette – the stunning Calvin Klein publicist – while she’s also beginning a relationship with John F. Kennedy Jr.

You might remember Michael Bergin as a real heartthrob, but let me tell you, I recently spotted him living a much more relaxed life out in LA. He’s definitely traded the polished look for something a little more casual – think effortlessly handsome rather than red-carpet ready! He’s keeping a low profile, which is lovely to see.

Photos reveal that the former star of Baywatch and Baywatch Hawaii still looks incredibly fit, even after thirty years.

I spotted him outside his beautiful home on Saturday, and he looked incredibly relaxed and happy! He was dressed super comfortably – black joggers, a Vuori sweatshirt, and Adidas sneakers. They seemed to be having a really friendly chat with a neighbor, which is always lovely to see.

He was later seen heading to his real estate office a few miles away. 

Mike Bergin has been married to Joy for 22 years, and together they have two adult children: Jesse, a 25-year-old pitcher playing for the Miami Marlins, and Alana, a 22-year-old model.

The former model famously shared intimate details about his complicated relationship with his ex-wife in his 2004 memoir, The Other Man. He portrayed their love story as passionate and deeply emotional.

Carolyn was three years older than Bergin, who was only 23 when they first went out. He said he immediately felt a strong connection with her.

He remembered her smiling at him, her face radiant with joy. He thought he could happily spend the rest of his life just looking at her.

‘I didn’t even know her but I felt connected to her in ways I couldn’t even begin to understand.’

The FX series portrays the fast-moving romance, and shows how Bergin got a stylish makeover thanks to his girlfriend, who dressed him in the newest Calvin Klein clothes.

He shared that Carolyn also played a key role in his personal growth, even helping him to speak more clearly and effectively.

“Make sure you finish your words,” she advised him, as the book explained. He appreciated the helpful feedback.

She was correct. My repetitive use of ‘doing,’ ‘saying,’ and ‘going’ made me sound unrefined, and Carolyn was attempting to help me speak more clearly.

‘She was educating me. Shaping me. Refining me And I not only allowed it, I appreciated it.’

Similar to Carolyn, Bergin grew up in Connecticut, specifically in the working-class town of Naugatuck. He went on to graduate from the University of Connecticut in 1992.

A photo in his memoir depicts the couple relaxing together on the couch at his simple home in Naugatuck. Bergin recalls she would often spend weekends there with him and his family.

This unusual photo highlights the close connection described in his book – a more gentle and personal side of Carolyn before her relationship with John F. Kennedy Jr. began.

Their relationship stayed mostly private, but it was overshadowed when she began a very public romance with a member of the Kennedy family, which received a lot of media attention.

Even then, Bergin was strikingly handsome and in great shape, and his friends suggested he consider a career in modeling.

By 1994, he had become a world-famous supermodel, most notably appearing in a provocative Calvin Klein underwear advertisement and several other major campaigns.

According to Bergin, Carolyn always kept a part of herself hidden, even concealing how serious her relationship with JFK Jr. was becoming.

When he saw photos of them together from October 1993 – sitting on a curb watching the New York City Marathon – he asked her about it, but she insisted nothing was happening between them.

She said John F. Kennedy Jr. was dating actress Daryl Hannah, but she presented herself as simply a supportive friend he confided in during a challenging period.

On September 21, 1996, three years after they first met, she married John F. Kennedy Jr. in a small ceremony with about 40 guests at the First African Baptist Church on Cumberland Island, Georgia.

Bergin has made waves with his claim that their sexual trysts continued after she married JFK Jr.

Looking back, it seems less of a physical relationship and more of a deep emotional connection. Ultimately, I realized it was time to move on. It was incredibly difficult, especially when Carolyn begged me to reconsider around May of 1998, but I knew I had to stick to my decision and walk away.

He never saw her again.

On July 16, 1999, John F. Kennedy Jr., 38, his wife Carolyn, 33, and her sister Lauren, 34, tragically died when the small plane Kennedy was flying crashed into the ocean while they were traveling to Martha’s Vineyard.

In his novel, The Other Man, Bergin reflects on a pivotal moment, questioning what might have been if he’d made a different choice: ‘If I had said yes, would she still be alive? Would we have been a couple, and would we have found happiness?’
