“Engaging” psychological thriller with “unexpected twists” is now trending in the UK

The erotic thriller Bone Lake is gaining popularity on UK streaming services after being released in US cinemas last year. The film, directed by Mercedes Bryce Morgan and written by Joshua Friedlander, centers on couple Sage (Maddie Hasson) and Diego (Marco Pigossi), whose romantic weekend is disrupted when another couple, the outgoing and somewhat pushy Will (Alex Roe) and Cin (Andra Nechita), accidentally books the same lakeside cabin.

The couple who caused the double-booking suggests Sage and Diego use the situation to get to know each other over the weekend. Meanwhile, Will tries to spook them with tales of a killer from the 1950s who supposedly hunted around Bone Lake.

After premiering at Fantastic Fest in 2024, Bone Temple was released in US cinemas last October. However, in the UK, it went straight to streaming. It’s currently available on Sky Cinema and NOW, and quickly became one of the platform’s most popular movies, reaching the 7th spot.

After a suspenseful trailer, the thriller delivers a wild and unpredictable story as Will and Cin slowly expose the complicated network of secrets, playful manipulation, and lies they’ve built.

As they argue about whether to leave, Will says with a playful grin, “If you go now, we’ll always have secrets from each other.”

Will compares love to a chess match and then asks their friends, “Want to know what happens when you lose?” The trailer immediately cuts to a scary scene featuring a chainsaw.

The new thriller, Bone Lake, is getting positive reviews! Rotten Tomatoes currently gives it a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating with an 84% score based on 97 reviews. Critics have praised the film as both “engaging” (according to the Detroit News) and “cleverly conceived” (Variety reports).

According to RogerEbert.com, the movie’s problems could have been easily solved if the characters Sage and Diego had an open relationship. However, the site also points out that Bone Lake is full of surprising turns and unusual elements, reminiscent of the over-the-top horror films Mandy (starring Nicolas Cage and Andrea Riseborough) and the classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which should please horror fans.

Bone Temple is streaming on Sky Cinema and NOW in the UK.
