The detective drama Bookish, which premiered in 2025 to critical acclaim as one of the year’s best TV shows, is returning for a second season. Creator and star Mark Gatiss (known for Sherlock) has shared some early details. The series, primarily set within the confined space of Gabriel Book’s bookstore, will also feature new guest stars including Jason Watkins and Ruth Codd.
Driven by a thirst for knowledge and a brilliant mind, he cracks cases the police can’t solve, relying on his own research and books.
According to Radio Times, the second season of Bookish will be more expansive. Creator David Gattis has shared that the story will broaden to include more of post-war London.

Gatiss described the second season as more ambitious, and revealed they finished filming just before Christmas. He’s confident this means it will air later this year, which he feels is a great sign of progress.

Jason Watkins, recently seen in Channel 5’s thriller The Game, will appear as a guest star on the show. He’ll play Harold Sneed, a secretive medium who becomes involved in one of Book’s cases.
I was so excited to see Ruth Codd from last year’s Celebrity Traitors is joining the cast as India Flynn! And there are some other amazing actors too – Miranda Richardson, Simon Callow, Rupert Graves, Claire Skinner, Youssef Kerkour, and Allan Corduner are all going to be in it. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic series!
Last year, the first season of Bookish premiered on U&alibi and quickly became one of the channel’s most popular launches, ranking as its second highest performing premiere of all time.

The second series follows Book as he delves into the world of spiritualism, investigating a puzzling case involving medium Harold Sneed, played by Watkins.
Just off Savile Row, Bliss enlists Book’s help with a strange murder at a men’s clothing shop. The elderly tailor, Maxie Kleinmann (played by Corduner), insists he’s the killer, but the clues don’t add up and suggest a far more complicated and disturbing situation.
I’m so excited about this new movie! It follows Book and Jack as they’re sent to this really picturesque German village called Würl by this enigmatic character known only as ‘E’. Their mission? To stop a Duchess who’s apparently a thief, right before Christmas. But things quickly get dark and dangerous! They start digging into some secrets – both their own and from the village’s past – inside this creepy old castle that’s full of people who could be murderers. It sounds absolutely thrilling!
Bookish aired on U&alibi.
