Donna Langley, head of NBCUniversal, has addressed the possibility of a third Wicked movie, responding to fan excitement about rumors of another film continuing the story of Oz.
Only a few months after the conclusion of Wicked: For Good, composer Stephen Schwartz—who created the music for the original stage show with writer Winnie Holzman—announced that they are starting work on a sequel.
The next installment in the Oz series is reportedly inspired by L. Frank Baum’s 1904 novel, The Marvelous Land of Oz. The film will likely center around Princess Ozma and is currently known as Ozma during production.

Responding to speculation, Langley stated it’s too soon to talk about a possible new project. However, she confirmed Universal Pictures is interested in finding a way to continue the Oz story in the future.
Although it’s still early in the process, the team behind Wicked is optimistic that, following the success of the first two films, they can explore other opportunities to expand the story and its world, as they told Variety.

“And of course, we do that with our rights holders and in conjunction with them, so when they’re ready,” she added.
Last month, Schwartz hinted at a possible new Oz movie, revealing that he and Holzman have been developing a script based on the second book in the series for about two years.
Okay, so this is a bit of a rumor right now, but I’m SO excited! The composer recently told The National that they’re actually working on getting their music into a Universal project. They’ve already had meetings and Universal seems really keen on the idea, so fingers crossed it actually happens – it would be amazing!

So, everyone’s talking about a new adaptation, and apparently it’s going to be way more true to L. Frank Baum’s original ‘Wizard of Oz’ books than ‘Wicked’ was. ‘Wicked’ took a lot of inspiration from Gregory Maguire’s novel, but this one, according to Stephen Schwartz, is aiming for a really faithful retelling of Baum’s stories – he even said the source material is super rich with possibilities!
Schwartz mentioned he and Holzman are exploring ideas from L. Frank Baum’s Oz books published after The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. While aiming for a more faithful adaptation, the film will still have a unique take on the story.
Wicked: For Good is available to buy or rent from Prime Video, AppleTV and more in the UK.
Okay, so the new issue of Living Legends magazine just dropped, and it’s ALL about Taylor Swift! It’s a huge 100-page, full-color special, and as a Swiftie, I definitely need to grab a copy. You can find it at newsstands or order it online for only £8.99. Seriously, it looks amazing!
