A major question for the DC Universe is what will happen with Batman. Because Batman is such a popular and reliable character, DC Studios is handling his story differently than other heroes in the reboot. While a new version of Batman will be introduced in the film The Brave and the Bold by director Andy Muschietti and writer Christina Hodson, Robert Pattinson will return as Batman first in The Batman — Part II, a sequel to the 2022 film. This sequel will be released as an ‘Elseworlds’ story, meaning it exists outside of the main DC Universe timeline.

DC Studios is planning two different, ongoing Batman movie series, which means a new actor will be taking on the role of the iconic hero in The Brave and the Bold. Although James Gunn has stated they won’t begin casting until the script is finished, fans are already suggesting who should play Batman. Brandon Sklenar has been a favorite online for a while, with actors like Jensen Ackles, Alan Ritchson, and Jake Gyllenhaal also frequently mentioned. Now, a new actor from the FX series is gaining attention as a potential Batman, and the excitement isn’t likely to fade soon.

It’s Hard To Ignore Paul Anthony Kelly’s Bruce Wayne Vibes As JFK Jr.

Ryan Murphy has created several successful shows for FX, starting with American Horror Story. This led to spin-offs like American Crime Story and, most recently, American Love Story, which was later simply called Love Story. The first episode of Love Story recently aired and focuses on the well-known relationship between John F. Kennedy and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.

Paul Anthony Kelly plays John F. Kennedy Jr., the son of President Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, in the series. He immediately captures Kennedy Jr.’s striking good looks – the same appearance that led People magazine to name him “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1988. It’s also easy to see a connection between Kennedy Jr. and Bruce Wayne; both men come from privileged, well-known families and are attractive, single individuals trying to find their place in the world.

Kelly strongly resembles the classic Bruce Wayne as depicted in comic books, much like Henry Cavill did with Superman. He also possesses the same serious and commanding presence as the Gotham City billionaire. While playing Bruce Wayne requires a broad range of acting skills – including portraying Batman – Kelly, like Robert Pattinson in Cosmopolis, seems capable of delivering that depth.

Superman Star David Corenswet Also Appeared in a Ryan Murphy Series

Although a decision on who will play Batman in the new DC Universe is still some time away, casting Robert Kelly would follow a pattern that’s proven successful so far. Before James Gunn chose David Corenswet as Superman, many fans had already considered him a strong contender for the role for years. Kelly is known for his work in shows like The Politician and Hollywood.

Once David Corenswet became a serious contender to play Superman, it was obvious he had the acting ability to go beyond just looking the part. If Michael Kelly were to be cast as Batman, he’d need to do the same, and the overall vision for the DC Universe would play a big role. James Gunn has already hinted at the kind of Batman he envisions, meaning Kelly would need to project a strong, intimidating presence. Traditionally, Warner Bros. has favored established stars for Batman, but the new DC Studios approach might allow for a fresh face.

As a huge movie fan, I’m really excited about David Corenswet as Superman – it just reinforces how good James Gunn is at picking lead actors. It makes me think he’ll nail the casting for other heroes too! And now, with the new DCU Batman on the horizon, I’ve got my eye on Jacob Elordi.
