I was so shocked to hear about what happened to Dwight Yoakam! Apparently, he had a really scary problem with his plane recently, which is why he was late to his show. It sounds like it was a genuinely frightening experience for him, and I’m just glad he’s okay.
The 69-year-old singer, famous for songs like “I Sang Dixie,” explained on Instagram why he was late to his concert in Lubbock, Texas, last Thursday.
I was really touched when the artist started by apologizing to all of us fans. Then, they explained exactly what happened – they gave us a full and honest account of the whole situation.
Yoakam wrote that he’d just found out the reason for his late arrival was announced to the audience as a confusing message over the loudspeakers.
The Grammy-winning artist explained that their plane had to stop its takeoff on Thursday afternoon because of a warning light indicating a mechanical problem.
The performer said the situation turned out well thanks to the pilots’ outstanding skill.
‘And they were able to avoid anything more dangerous or catastrophic occurring.’
Because the plane couldn’t be repaired, Yoakam and his companions had to travel on a different aircraft.
I was so thrilled he made it to Lubbock for the show, even though he didn’t actually come on stage until after 10:00pm. He was over an hour behind his planned 9:00pm start time, but honestly, I was just relieved he was there!
I want to sincerely apologize to everyone who was at the show that the announcement about the delay wasn’t made more clearly and respectfully from the stage.
In conclusion, he added, ‘I am very sorry for any frustration and disappointment the delay caused.’
Although the announcement wasn’t great, we did find out what was happening. We were told the show would still happen, just later than planned.
You know, it really warmed my heart to see him follow through with his commitment, even with everything going on. And honestly, Dwight’s explanation was spot-on – it just showed what a genuinely considerate person he is. So many fans felt the same way, calling it a truly classy move, and I couldn’t agree more!
People expressed relief that the band and everyone involved were safe, with one commenter saying, “I’m just glad you all are safe – that’s the most important thing.”
Someone else commented, ‘I missed the beginning, but I’ve seen your performances often and know you always deliver, even with a late start. I’m happy you arrived safely and still put on a great show!’
Fans expressed relief that everyone was safe, with one writing, ‘The most important thing is you’re all okay.’ Another fan thanked the person for sharing the update, saying it demonstrated genuine care for their supporters and returning the affection.
Yoakam is currently on his Live in Concert tour which kicked off in Lubbock on February 12.
He’s scheduled to perform on February 19th in Mobile, Alabama, with more shows planned in Georgia and South Carolina. His tour will conclude with a final concert on March 6th in Durant, Oklahoma.
But Yoakam has a busy year ahead of him with a second tour also slated to begin in March.
He’s teaming up with ZZ Top for the Dos Amigos Tour, kicking off on March 26th in Brookings, South Dakota.
The concert series will end on May 23rd with a final show in Huntington, West Virginia.
Dwight Yoakam first became well-known in 1986 with his first album, ‘Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.’ It quickly became the top-selling country album in the United States, according to Billboard charts.
He continued his success with his next two albums, Hillbilly Deluxe (1987) and Buenas Noches From A Lonely Room (1988), both of which topped the music charts.
The artist’s popular songs also include classics like ‘I Sang Dixie,’ ‘Streets of Bakersfield,’ and ‘Honky Tonk Man’.
Yoakam’s most recent album Brighter Days was released in 2024.
The song “I Don’t Know How to Say Goodbye (Bang Bang Boom Boom)” prominently featured Post Malone.
The country music star told Billboard they pushed back the album’s release date by around six months, while talking about his work with Malone.
I was surprised to learn Post Malone recorded his vocals in between days of filming the ‘Fortnight’ music video with Taylor Swift. We then decided to include the track on the album, which led us to push back the release date.
Dwight Yoakam has won two Grammy Awards and was honored with induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019.
Besides being a musician, the singer has also appeared in movies like Wedding Crashers, Panic Room, and Sling Blade.
