Fans of the thriller series The Assassin, featuring Keeley Hawes and Freddie Highmore, will be happy to hear it’s been renewed for a second season on Prime Video. The first season was well-received by critics.
The creators, Harry and Jack Williams, announced that filming for the next installment will start later this year. Hugh Laurie, Freddie Highmore, Shalom Brune-Franklin, and Devon Terrell are all expected to return for the new season.
The show features Kelly Hawes as Julie Green, a retired hitwoman whose peaceful existence is turned upside down when her son, Edward (Highmore), shows up. In the first season, he seeks information about his father, but that’s not the only secret from Julie’s past that comes back to haunt her.
What to Read Next
According to the official announcement, the second season begins with Edward and Julie back from a troubled trip to Northern Europe. They’re distant from each other again after a secret disagreement that no one seems to know about.
Julie hasn’t left her life as an assassin behind; she’s returned to it, all while trying to navigate the challenges of dating.

Edward’s honeymoon takes an unexpected turn, forcing him to team up with his ex, Julie, to fight corruption in Spain. But can they complete the dangerous mission and repair their broken relationship?
Hawes, also a producer on the show, shared her excitement about returning to the story. She said it’s a joy to work with the cast again, especially Freddie, and to explore Julie’s character and her complex connection with Edward. She promises fans there are many more stories to tell and that they’re in for something special!
“It’s going to be great to work with everyone again,” said Highmore. “I’m really excited to reconnect with the cast and crew. Harry and Jack have created another amazing story, and I’m thrilled to be acting alongside the talented Keeley once more.”

Daisy Mount and Alex Mercer, the executive producers from Two Brothers Pictures, expressed their excitement about working again with Keeley, Freddie, Shalom, and Devon as they begin production on the next installment of The Assassin.
We couldn’t possibly let everything end happily! Season two is packed with unexpected twists, exciting turns, and plenty of suspense – mirroring the complicated lives of the characters.
