Nicolas Cage explained why he hasn’t joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in a characteristically quirky way back in 2023. Even though he’s played Ghost Rider and is starring in the new Spider-Noir series for Prime Video, Cage has never been part of the MCU, and he discussed this in a clip that recently went viral.
Spider-Noir’s Nicolas Cage doesn’t ‘need to be in the MCU’
At a 2023 Miami Film Festival discussion led by Variety’s Angelique Jackson, Nicolas Cage was playfully urged to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jackson exclaimed, “We need to get you into the MCU!” Cage responded with a laugh, acknowledging he wasn’t currently part of it and confidently stating, “I’m Nic Cage!” – implying he’s doing just fine on his own.
I was so excited when this old clip started circulating on X! It’s got Marvel fans like me buzzing with theories. Some of us are hoping it hints at a darker, R-rated Ghost Rider movie – something his past films really needed, in my opinion. Others are even speculating about a surprise casting for Gambit, even though Channing Tatum is already known for that role. It’s all just so intriguing!
Most fans seem to agree with Nicolas Cage. One fan pointed out that he’s built his own unique filmography, having played everything from vampires to sorcerers, even a version of himself. They questioned whether Marvel could truly capture his energy, adding, “Respectfully.” Another fan jokingly acknowledged his role as Ghost Rider before agreeing that Cage is simply “Nick Cage.” A third fan playfully declared him the creator of his own “Cage Cinematic Universe.”
Nicolas Cage is known for his memorable performances in films over the past forty years. Recently, he’s starred in movies like Pig, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Renfield, and Longlegs. He’s continuing this trend with an upcoming role in the Prime Video series Spider-Noir, where he plays Ben Reilly, a conflicted vigilante in a 1930s-inspired alternate universe. This marks the first time he’s played the character in live-action, after previously voicing him in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
