Darcy Moore and his ‘ultra-woke’ girlfriend Dee Salmin share MAJOR relationship news – as the AFL star reveals the shock amount of time he was single before the pair met

Darcy Moore and his girlfriend Dee Salmin have taken the next, serious step in their relationship.

Radio host Dee, 31, had always said she didn’t want to move in with her partner, but she and her AFL star boyfriend have now changed their minds and decided to live together.

Dee told The Sydney Morning Herald that they had many discussions about the practicalities of living together, and it’s been a really enjoyable process.

Dee shared that the couple moved in together last year, and Darcy usually handles the cooking.

Oh my gosh, you guys, Darcy just told me all about it! They said living with Dee has been amazing because Dee is finally seeing what it’s really like – all the pain, the constant injuries, how absolutely exhausting it is being a professional athlete. It’s like, Dee’s always known they were dedicated, but now they’re seeing the sacrifices firsthand, and it’s brought them so much closer! I’m seriously melting – it’s just so sweet!

Surprisingly, being able to talk about it has actually helped me. As captain, I usually need to be the strong, steady, and calm one, so it’s a relief to share when things are tough.

‘To be able to show her the real and challenging part of it has felt really nice.’ 

During the interview, the couple also revealed they had both been single for several years before they met. Darcy shared that he hadn’t been in a long-term relationship throughout his adult life.

We’d both been single for a while – I hadn’t been in a relationship since I was an adult – so we took things very slowly and carefully at first. We didn’t want to jump into anything too quickly, he explained.

Dee hadn’t been in a relationship for three years when she met Darcy. Before that, she’d mostly stayed away from dating throughout her twenties because she was fed up with repeatedly being attracted to the wrong kind of people.

In July 2024, a radio host known for her progressive opinions publicly stated she didn’t want to live with the captain of the Collingwood premiership team.

Salmin presents the sex education program ‘The Sunday Hook Up’ on Triple J radio, and she discussed their relationship on the ABC show ‘Ladies, We Need To Talk’.

She explained that she and her partner weren’t living together and both had very full, separate lives.

Dee explained that she and Moore don’t follow the traditional expectation that women should do most of the housework and chores in a relationship.

‘We get to have so much of what we had when we were still single in our relationship,’ she said. 

I’m just curious how sustainable those habits will be once you’re living together. It’s easy to slip into familiar patterns, especially those we’ve learned from traditional relationships.

She pointed out that living together can easily fall into boring routines – what she called ‘domestic drudgery’ – and honestly, that’s not very appealing! She playfully challenged them, wondering if they thought all couples should avoid sharing a home. It’s a thought-provoking question, isn’t it?

‘I’m going to be doing it for as long as possible,’ Salmin said.

I told my partner I’d like us to have separate bedrooms when we live together. It’s really important to me.

Honestly, I was SO captivated by what Salmin said! It really hit me – she was saying you HAVE to work on yourself, you can’t just expect your partner to fix everything or be your whole world. It’s like, you need to take care of you first, you know? It’s just… so true!

As a lifestyle observer, I’ve been following Dee and Darcy’s relationship – they started dating in early 2023 and really stepped into the spotlight about eight months later when they attended the 2023 Brownlow event together. It was their first big public moment as a couple!
