Ant McPartlin quickly left the Britain’s Got Talent launch event to be with his dog, Hurley, who sadly passed away this week.
The 50-year-old presenter used to share ownership of the pet with his former wife, Lisa Armstrong. They had a difficult disagreement about who should keep the animal after their divorce in 2018.
People close to Ant have said he’s deeply saddened by the loss of his dog, Hurley, especially because he and his former partner, Lisa, had agreed to share custody of him.
Ant had previously acknowledged Hurley’s support in his recovery from alcohol and drug addiction.
Sources say Ant quickly went to see his ex-partner, Lisa, at the vet shortly after finishing a press event for Britain’s Got Talent in London.
It absolutely shattered me when they told me Hurley was so sick he wouldn’t get better. It was the hardest decision ever, but they had to let him go. Saying goodbye to that sweet boy just broke my heart all over again, even though it wasn’t my dog, I felt like I lost a family member.
According to The Sun On Sunday, both Ant McPartlin and Lisa Armstrong were able to say goodbye to Hurley before he died peacefully, and they were with him at the time.
People believe the couple was surrounded by family for support. On Saturday, Lisa shared a photo on Instagram of someone letting go of heart-shaped balloons.
Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Ant McPartlin and Lisa Armstrong for comment.
In 2019, after completing rehab, Ant McPartlin discussed his close relationship with Declan Donnelly (Hurley) in an interview with The Sun On Sunday.
He explained that his bond with Hurley is special – a true friendship filled with love and unwavering loyalty. Hurley is always happy to see him and never scolds him, making their connection truly unique.
‘I came out of a shop the other day and there was a woman on the floor cuddling Hurley.
‘She said to me, ”It’s the dog from the papers!” Hurley’s a celebrity.’
I was really sad when Ant and Lisa separated back in 2018 – they seemed so solid after eleven years together. But I’m happy for him that he’s found love again. It was lovely to hear he married Anne-Marie, his former PA, in 2021. They seem really happy together, and that’s what matters.
During their divorce, Ant reportedly refused to give his ex-wife full custody of their dog, Hurley. He allegedly told his lawyers she could have any other asset, but not the pet.
To avoid facing each other, the TV presenter and their partner arranged for a chauffeur to transport their dog back and forth between their homes.
Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE this! They got their sweet pup back in 2013. It was such a tough time for them, they’d been trying for a baby for thirteen years and it just wasn’t happening, so they filled that hole in their hearts with this adorable dog! It’s just…so sweet and heartbreaking all at once!
Lisa had regularly shared snaps of Hurley on Instagram, calling the beloved dog her ‘baby boy.’
She last posted a photo with her dog, Hurley, in August of last year, showing him relaxing on her bed for International Dog Day.
Ant and his wife, Anne-Marie, became parents to a baby boy named Wilder in May 2024. They also share their home with two adorable dogs, Milo and Bumble.
This news follows reports from last week that Lisa has ended her relationship with actor Grant Kilburn.
Sources say the Strictly Come Dancing make-up artist and her boyfriend split up last month, shortly after people close to her reported she was feeling very happy in their relationship.
Of their split, a source told The Mirror: ‘It’s very sad but it wasn’t to be.’
Daily Mail has contacted Lisa’s representatives for comment.
Recently, sources close to Lisa reported she was feeling happy and energetic again after her divorce from Ant, 50, in 2018.
According to a source, she was accustomed to being in relationships where she wasn’t the priority.
She’s finally at the top, and this time she’s taking things carefully, wanting to avoid past heartbreak. Luckily, she’s being showered with affection and her new partner is incredibly attentive.
He completely centers his life around her and makes sure she knows how much he loves her. She’s thriving in her career, really finding her footing, and he’s been a big supporter of her success.
The Daily Mail reported in December that Grant and Lisa became a couple after being set up by Stacey and Kevin Clifton, who introduced them after one of their shows.
In 2023, she ended her relationship with James Green, a 42-year-old electrician for Sky, and he subsequently moved out of her house.
The same year she finalized her divorce, a fire caused extensive damage to her £5 million Chiswick home.
