James Van Der Beek purchased $4.8million Texas ranch for his family just one month before his death at 48

Just one month before he passed away, James Van Der Beek purchased the 36-acre Texas ranch he’d been renting.

The actor died on Wednesday at age 48 following a two-year battle with colorectal cancer.

In 2020, actor Joshua Jackson and his wife, Kimberly, moved their family from Los Angeles to Spicewood, Texas.

The couple, married in 2010, decided to rent the house to see if they liked the neighborhood before buying it.

Realtor.com’s review of property records shows the couple bought the large house for $4.76 million on January 9th in a private sale.

The Van Der Beeks used an LLC managed by a California attorney, per the outlet.

The property includes a main house, as well as several cabins, a pool, and a backyard overlooking the river.

They decided to move because of their children. The father of six explained in a 2021 interview with Austin Life that he wanted them to grow up with more access to nature.

‘We wanted to give the children space and we wanted them to live in nature,’ he said at the time.Ā

The move also followed an emotionally taxing time for the Van Der Beek family.

The actor lost his motherĀ Melinda Weber in July 2020, andĀ Kimberly had sufferedĀ five miscarriages.

James Van Der Beek and his wife have six children: daughters Olivia (15), Annabel (12), Emilia (9), and Gwendolyn (7), and sons Joshua (13) and Jeremiah (4).

He described his new home as a truly special place, filled with an energy that goes beyond any specific belief system or way of thinking.

You know, I’ve always been drawn to Texas, and I think a lot of people are. It’s just…different. There’s a real, down-to-earth quality of life there, a chance to really get your hands dirty and be involved. Honestly, I was really craving that kind of authentic, practical way of living, and Texas just felt like the perfect fit.

In the wake of his death family friends set up a GoFundMe account for Kimberly and her kids.

The fundraising page started with a goal of $500,000, but has now raised over $2.4 million thanks to more than 46,000 donations.

After this heartbreaking loss, Kimberly and her children are now facing a very uncertain future.

I’m deeply concerned about the Miller family. James’s cancer battle has been so long and expensive, they’ve unfortunately used up all their savings. They’re working tirelessly to keep their home and, most importantly, to make sure their kids can stay in school and have some sense of normalcy through all of this. It’s a really tough situation, and they could really use our support.

As a lifestyle expert, I always tell people that going through a tough time is so much easier when you have a strong support system. Honestly, the love and encouragement from your friends, family, and even the broader community can truly make all the difference as you work through challenges and move forward. It’s not about going it alone – lean on those who care about you!

Your kindness will directly help Kimberly and her family with everyday costs like bills and school for their children. Any amount you can give, big or small, will offer them hope and a fresh start as they work to rebuild their lives. We truly appreciate your support.
