Looking for a Valentine’s Day gift that’s a little different? Instead of a watch, how about a lesser-known historical drama featuring Hannah Waddingham from Ted Lasso and Lucy Fallon from Coronation Street?

The TV series Tom Jones is adapted from Henry Fielding’s novel, The History of Tom Jones, A Foundling, which was originally published in 1749.

This four-part romantic comedy, set in the scandalous world of the 1700s, tells the story of Tom Jones, who falls for his lovely neighbor, Sophia.

Okay, so there’s this guy and girl who are totally into each other, but it’s a classic problem – he doesn’t have much, and she’s super wealthy. Their families are not happy about it and are actively trying to break them up. It makes you wonder, can their love actually overcome all the obstacles?

The film features a talented cast including Sophie Wilde, known from Babygirl, James Fleet of The Vicar of Dibley, Dean Lennox Kelly from Shameless, and Pearl Mackie, who starred in Doctor Who.

So, the cast is pretty awesome! We’ve got Felicity Montagu, who you might recognize as Alan Partridge’s assistant, Shirley Henderson from ‘I Swear’, and Alun Anderson who was in ‘New Tricks’. Really solid actors, I’m excited to see what they bring to the project!

Despite all the recognisable names, the 2023 series has gone mostly unnoticed.

The show isn’t performing well with audiences. It hasn’t broken into the top 1,000 most popular titles on JustWatch UK, a site that monitors streaming interest, and has only received 1,400 ratings on IMDb.

Everyone is buzzing about Emerald Fennell’s new film adaptation of Wuthering Heights, which just hit theaters in time for Valentine’s Day.

The film features major stars like Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, but critics have had very mixed reactions. Even our review at Digital Spy found it both incredibly engaging and surprisingly frustrating.

Everyone was guessing if this adaptation would be really different and self-aware, playing with the original story in a surprising way. But, well, it turned out it wasn’t like that at all, actually. It stuck pretty close to the source material!
