Scarface star who acted with Tom Cruise and Kevin Costner is seen on the NYC subway aged 67… who is she?

A well-known actress, who starred alongside many of her generation’s biggest male leads, was spotted riding the New York City subway this week.

She began her career performing on stage, but quickly became famous in Hollywood after landing a prominent role in the film Scarface, acting alongside Al Pacino.

During the 1980s, she starred alongside Tom Cruise. Then, in the 1990s, she acted with Kevin Costner, and at the start of the 2000s, she appeared with George Clooney.

The Tony-nominated actress, now 67 years old, was spotted in Manhattan carrying a full shopping bag while riding the subway.

She stayed warm against the New York winter in a puffer jacket, mittens, a pale grey turtleneck, and dark, slim-fit jeans.

Can you guess who she is?

Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio is the actress, well-known for her role as Gina in the movie Scarface. She played the sister of Tony Montana, the film’s powerful drug lord played by Al Pacino.

The 1983 gangster film, a classic directed by Brian De Palma and written by Oliver Stone, starred Mastrantonio alongside Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert Loggia, and Steven Bauer, who was Melanie Griffith’s then-husband.

Mastrantonio grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and initially studied drama at the University of Illinois. She then moved to New York City to pursue a career as an actress.

She made her Broadway debut in 1980, appearing in a revival of West Side Story. She initially served as an understudy for the role of Maria, eventually taking over the part from Josie de Guzman.

Three years after starting her career, she quickly gained attention in Hollywood with her powerful performance in Scarface. She played Gina Montana, who had a dramatic and volatile relationship with her brother, Tony, and his close associate, Manny (played by Bauer), who eventually becomes her love interest.

Mastrantonio’s face started appearing nationally, but people often mistook her for someone else – a common occurrence that became a running joke.

In a 1989 interview with the New York Times, Amy Irving shared that people often mistake her for someone else. She said people would exclaim, ‘You’re Amy Irving!’ But she also recounted a funny incident where a cab driver told her she looked like Geena Davis in the movie Scarface, noting they both have wide-set eyes.

Her film career gained significant momentum with roles in acclaimed movies, including Martin Scorsese’s 1986 film, The Color of Money, which featured Paul Newman and Tom Cruise as skilled pool players.

Alexandra Mastrantonio received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Tom Cruise’s girlfriend in the film, but Dianne Wiest won the award for her performance in Woody Allen’s Hannah and Her Sisters.

She ended the 1980s with a part in James Cameron’s science fiction film The Abyss, a deep-sea thriller set during the Cold War, alongside Ed Harris and Michael Biehn.

In 1991, she starred as Maid Marian alongside Kevin Costner in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. The film also featured a remarkable cast including Morgan Freeman, Christian Slater, and Alan Rickman.

Throughout the 1990s, Mastrantonio appeared alongside Patrick Swayze in the fantasy film Three Wishes. She also acted with Kevin Spacey and Kevin Kline in the thriller Consenting Adults, directed by Alan J. Pakula – the acclaimed filmmaker behind such classics as Klute, Sophie’s Choice, and All the President’s Men.

In 2000, she appeared alongside George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Diane Lane, and John C. Reilly in the disaster film, The Perfect Storm.

She also continued to succeed on stage, receiving a Tony Award nomination in 2003 for her performance as Aldonza in a new production of the famous musical, Man of La Mancha.

Personally, Mastrantonio has been married to Irish director Pat O’Connor for 35 years, and they have two sons together.
