Rosie O’Donnell recently came back to the U.S. quietly to see how things were after President Trump suggested he might take away her citizenship. This followed her decision to move to Ireland last year.
In March 2025, the 63-year-old former talk show host announced she had moved to Ireland. She explained that she felt unsafe and worried about her family after the inauguration of a second term for Trump, prompting her decision to relocate.
This action follows a years-long conflict with Donald Trump, which began when she was a co-host on The View. Just last month, Trump publicly threatened to revoke O’Donnell’s U.S. citizenship.
On Friday’s SiriusXM program, Cuomo Mornings, O’Donnell shared that she had recently made a brief, private trip back to the United States.
She recently returned home to visit her family for two weeks without letting anyone know beforehand, as she explained.
I was curious about the challenges of international travel and wanted to experience it firsthand.
She told Cuomo, ‘I wanted to hold my children again.’
In January 2025, a mother of five traveled abroad with her youngest son, Clay, leaving her four older children – Parker (29), Blake (25), Chelsea (27), and Vivienne (22) – back in the United States.
O’Donnell explained that she hadn’t visited home in over a year and wanted to check if it was safe before bringing her daughter this summer. They’re planning to spend the break from school with her family.
The actress shared that one of her sons is going to be a father, and she’s thrilled to be able to spend time at home for the upcoming arrival.
She spent the two-week visit in New York and described it as ‘a very different country.’
She explained that living in Ireland has been a refreshing change. For the past year, she’s avoided watching the news and American television, and she’s found a life free from celebrity obsession, which has brought more balance to her life.
O’Donnell stated she has no regrets about leaving, explaining that it was necessary for her own well-being and the safety of her child.
She also admitted the energy she felt in the US was unsettling.
She described the atmosphere in the United States as unsettling, saying, ‘It felt scary, like something was seriously wrong, but nobody seemed to be addressing it.’
Even after she moved to another country, Trump announced in July 2025 that he was thinking about taking away her American citizenship.
He stated he is seriously considering revoking Rosie O’Donnell’s citizenship, claiming she is not acting in the best interests of the country.
She is considered a danger to people and should stay in Ireland if they will accept her. God bless America!
O’Donnell responded on Instagram, accusing the President of the United States of being a dishonest and abusive con artist who prioritizes personal gain over the well-being of the country. She stated he has always resented her for recognizing his true character.
“That’s why I chose to live in Ireland,” she explained. “He’s a harmful, heartless man suffering from dementia, and he completely lacks empathy or compassion. I strongly disagree with everything he stands for, and so do many other people.”
Meanwhile, O’Donnell has also been candid about her dramatic weight loss since moving to Ireland.
The 63-year-old shared that she’s lost a lot of weight thanks to Mounjaro, a medication she takes for diabetes, and believes it played a big role in her health journey.
She shared in a TikTok video that she’s lost weight while taking Mounjaro for diabetes, jokingly mentioning weight loss is a side effect of the medication.
Rosie O’Donnell was also surprised by how much weight she’d lost as she focused on improving her health.
She admitted she’s always struggled with her weight, and she’s genuinely surprised to now be fitting into a large size after previously wearing extra-large or double-extra-large. She described the change as completely shocking to her.
