Kaley Cuoco reveals fiancé Tom Pelphrey had never heard of The Big Bang Theory when they met and now refuses to watch it

Most people recognize Kaley Cuoco from her popular role as Penny on the TV show The Big Bang Theory, but surprisingly, her now-fiancé, Tom Pelphrey, hadn’t seen it when they first got together.

The 40-year-old actress, known for her role in a US TV show that ran from 2007 to 2019, remembered when she first met the actor’s family. She was surprised when they kept calling her by the name of her character instead of her real name.

On Friday’s Graham Norton show, she revealed that Tom didn’t know about something when they first met. She also shared a funny story about their first time meeting his family, where his mother’s partner repeatedly called her “Penny”.

I stayed quiet because I found the situation endearing, but I noticed Tom looked puzzled. Later, in the car, he apologized, explaining he’d accidentally given someone my name, and couldn’t understand why they kept calling me Penny all day.

The actress told reporters she had to describe her part in the show to Tom, who is 43, but he hasn’t gotten around to watching her in it yet.

Kaley and her fiancé, actor Tom Pelphrey—known for his roles in Ozark and Marvel’s Iron Fist—had a daughter named Matilda in March 2023 and got engaged in 2024.

The show also featured appearances by Stephen Graham, known for his role in Adolescence, award-winning actor Adrian Lester, Leo Woodall from White Lotus and One Day, and the popular British band Gorillaz.

Stephen, thrilled with the popularity of the Netflix series, described its success as ‘surreal’ and unexpected, adding that they’d ‘caught something in the zeitgeist.’ Erin Doherty echoed this sentiment, calling the show ‘the gift that keeps on giving.’

The awards were fantastic, but what’s truly amazing is how much more attention this has brought to the issue. It’s exceeded all my expectations.

Adrian also discussed his part in a new stage production of Cyrano de Bergerac, where he wears a large fake nose.

The character has had many different noses over time, but we really wanted this one to look realistic, even though it’s quite large. We actually started with a smaller nose and kept increasing the size. It’s so big, I worry it will fall off if I move too quickly on stage!

Leo shared that he almost missed out on the role in ‘One Day’. He explained that he was already committed to filming ‘White Lotus’ and had temporary tattoos for that project when he went to audition.

You wouldn’t believe the lengths I go to for a role! I once had someone genuinely convinced the temporary tattoo I got for a part – a ‘Cowabunga’ design on my neck, of all things – was real. And the turnaround between jobs is often insane. I had just two weeks once to shed some weight, completely ditch my natural Essex accent and nail that refined, upper-class voice for Dexter, and cover up all my tattoos. Let me tell you, getting rid of tattoos isn’t a quick process, no matter what anyone says!

This follows Kaley Cuoco’s recent disclosure that April 2022 was the most difficult time in her life, occurring just two months before her divorce from Karl Cook was finalized after three years of marriage.

She was still at the house they shared, and was completely heartbroken, lying on the floor. She later recalled thinking she’d destroyed her future, and was crying uncontrollably.

In an interview on the Armchair Expert podcast, she revealed that experiencing that was the lowest point of her life, explaining she was so deeply depressed she couldn’t get out of bed.

She’s been nominated for Emmys three times, and she really needed to prepare and get all dolled up for the premiere of season two of her show, The Flight Attendant, which was held in West Hollywood. It was a big night, and she looked amazing!

I told them I couldn’t make it, and I was really upset. Everything felt so difficult, and I worried that this might be the end of the line for me.

Harley Quinn star and producer, Margot Robbie, spoke highly of the 35-year-old equestrian, saying she has nothing but positive things to say about him and calling him “amazing.”

As of April 2024, Tim Cook is married to Mackenzie Drazan, the founder of MiResource. They began dating in September 2022.

Kaley met her fiancé, Tom, after just two weeks, thanks to a nudge from her manager. She attended the Manhattan premiere of his Netflix series, Ozark, and that’s where they connected.
