Keanu Reeves confirmed for John Wick return, but not in John Wick 5

Keanu Reeves will reprise his role as John Wick in a new movie. Despite his character seemingly dying in Chapter 4, a fifth film was announced previously, but this upcoming project is separate from that one.

A new trailer for a major John Wick game was revealed during PlayStation’s State of Play event last night. While the trailer mostly kept the character’s face obscured, highlighting the game’s third-person action and signature gun-fu combat, it confirmed at the end that Keanu Reeves is involved in the project.

We’ve now learned the actor will not only play the character but also provide its voice, and is actively helping to create the game alongside the director of the film series, Chad Stahelski.

The game’s story will take place long before the events of the Impossible Task, and will include both familiar and brand-new characters.

Saber Interactive, known for games like World War Z and the upcoming Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remaster, is developing this title. They also have experience with porting and remastering many other games.

Matthew Karch, CEO of Saber Interactive, expressed excitement about partnering with Chad Stahelski, Keanu Reeves, and Lionsgate to create a high-quality AAA game based on the popular John Wick franchise. He noted that John Wick is a legendary action movie character and Saber is proud to be collaborating on this project.

Jenefer Brown, head of global products and experiences at Lionsgate, expressed her excitement for fans to experience the world of John Wick and The High Table firsthand.

We’re working directly with Saber’s team to create a game that truly feels like the movies – with the same exciting action, incredible fighting, detailed world, and realistic feel.

This isn’t the first time the series has ventured into gaming. It’s previously partnered with games like Payday 2, Fortnite, and Call of Duty, and also released a virtual reality game and a strategy RPG.

Over the years, several potential additions to the John Wick franchise have been discussed. The most developed idea is a movie centered around the character Caine, which Donnie Yen will both direct and star in.

Keanu Reeves won’t be in the new movie, but it’s interesting to note that he wasn’t originally planned for Ballerina either – yet he ultimately appeared in the final cut.

The John Wick game will be released on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S.
