Joachim Trier, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Eskil Vogt, directed Sentimental Value. The film received widespread critical acclaim, boasting a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 231 reviews. When it premiered in November 2025, FilmWeek declared it the best film of the year.
The film centers on sisters Nora and Agnes as they reconnect with their father, Gustav, a formerly famous director. He’s attempting a career revival by writing a screenplay inspired by his own family.
Gustav wants Nora to star in his film, but she turns down the offer. He then casts Elle Fanning, a rising young actress, and the movie brings all three of them face-to-face with painful memories from their past.
Sentimental Value is now available to watch on MUBI in the UK.
