Speaking at the Star Wars: Most Wanted event, he revealed that the film builds on the story in exciting ways for dedicated fans and offers significant improvements in both its creative and technical aspects, making it perfect for the big screen.

How The Mandalorian and Grogu improves on the show

Jon Favreau believes The Mandalorian and its character Grogu have set a new standard for quality in the Star Wars universe, both in how it looks and the stories it tells.

Jon Favreau stated during a recent event that to truly showcase films in IMAX, they need to utilize taller aspect ratios. He explained that the team prioritized detailed set design and top-notch visual effects to create a cinematic experience worth seeing in theaters. He emphasized their goal is to deliver an immersive adventure that fully utilizes the large screen.

Favreau highlighted how watching in a cinema is different from streaming at home. He joked that you won’t be able to pause the movie or snack from your kitchen! The goal is to create a more immersive story with a grander scale and more excitement for the audience.

The show centers on Din Djarin and Grogu as they assist the New Republic in battling remnants of the Empire. According to creator Jon Favreau, Din Djarin will continue to fly the same ship, and Grogu has grown in his abilities. Favreau also described Grogu as having traits of both a Jedi and a Mandalorian.

The screenplay was written by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. The show stars Sigourney Weaver as Colonel Ward and Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt. Steve Blum voices Zeb Orrelios, and Jonny Coyne plays Imperial Warlord Janu Coin, while Pedro Pascal reprises his role as Din Djarin.

The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters on May 22, 2026.
