Simon Cowell announced that Britain’s Got Talent is planning a special 20th-anniversary celebration featuring an all-stars series. The show will bring back past contestants to compete against each other again.
The 66-year-old music executive announced plans to celebrate the show’s 20th season next year with a special lineup featuring its most memorable performers, including the iconic Susan Boyle.
Simon told the Daily Mail that the judging panel will be the same as before: himself, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and new judge KSI.
This year, KSI joined the judging panel full-time after Bruno Tonioli left the show. The new series will begin airing on Saturday, February 21st.
Simon hinted at what viewers can anticipate in season 20, confirming the current judges will return. He also announced a special ‘champions’ show featuring top past contestants, calling it ‘brilliant’.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’m really drawn to shows that bring together top talent from across the globe and pit them against each other in a high-stakes competition. There’s just something incredibly exciting about seeing the best of the best go head-to-head!
When asked about bringing back Susan, a 64-year-old finalist from 2009, Simon Cowell excitedly replied, ‘Absolutely, she’s a must-have!’
It’s been sixteen years since Susan became famous on Britain’s Got Talent, appearing on the third season. She almost won, but the dance group Diversity took home the prize.
Her audition immediately captivated the audience with her dream of becoming a singer like Elaine Paige. However, the judges and viewers unfairly dismissed her based on how she looked, rather than her talent.
She surprised everyone with her performance of ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ from Les Misérables. Amanda described it as a turning point, especially considering the audience and judges were initially skeptical.
I was absolutely thrilled when Susan released her first album, ‘I Dreamed a Dream’! It was named after the song that first captured everyone’s hearts, and it went on to become the biggest-selling album worldwide in 2009. I still remember how excited I was to get my copy!
She achieved a UK music first by releasing three albums that all reached the top of the charts in under two years. So far, she’s sold an impressive 25 million records worldwide.
She recently gained a new admirer when actor Timothée Chalamet publicly shared his appreciation for her in December, while promoting his movie, Marty Supreme.
In a recent BBC News interview, the Oscar-nominated actor shared that he’s a fan of Susan and her popular audition video. He was asked to name British celebrities who deserve one of the exclusive Marty Supreme jackets.
After mentioning Lewis Hamilton, Victoria and David Beckham, and the rapper Fake Mink, he concluded the list with Susan.
Even when the interviewer chuckled, Timothée firmly stood by his statement, responding seriously: ‘She had huge ambitions. Her dreams were larger than anyone else’s.’
Seriously, how could anyone not be blown away by that story? I still think about it all the time, it feels like it happened yesterday! It was a total game-changer, honestly. It felt like the very beginning of everything on YouTube, like the moment things really took off!
Simon told the Mail he saw the video of the famous star giving a shout-out to the Britain’s Got Talent icon, and shared his reaction.
‘That was so sweet, what he said, and coming from him that meant a lot.’
Susan was deeply touched by what Timothée said and shared her reaction on Instagram, writing that she was incredibly moved and flattered by his words.
Looking back on those first days fills me with gratitude, and knowing they still hold meaning for you after all this time is incredibly humbling.
Everyone begins with a dream and a little hope, right? Don’t be afraid to dream big! I wish you all the best as you pursue your goals.
‘Thank you for your kindness and for remembering that moment so fondly. With love, Susan.’
After a six-year break from music due to serious health problems, Susan is getting ready to perform again.
She announced in May that she’s recording new music, describing a day in the studio as both wonderful and emotional.
This comeback is especially meaningful because she’s been recovering from a stroke she suffered in 2022, which made it difficult for her to talk or sing.
After experiencing a stroke, she was at higher risk for another one, so her team carefully planned how quickly she returned to public appearances and activities.
Susan has diabetes, and because of this, doctors told her she was at higher risk of getting coronavirus during the pandemic.
