Few things are as exciting as a great mystery thriller. These stories grab your attention and keep you guessing with unexpected twists and turns. Asian thrillers are becoming increasingly popular, and they’re known for being innovative, intense, and unafraid to tackle challenging subjects. Luckily, major streaming services are now bringing these Asian thrillers to a global audience.
Netflix excels at mystery thrillers, as they proved with last year’s The Hunting Wives, and they have another captivating series ready for you: Million-Follower Detective. This eight-episode Taiwanese thriller has everything you need for a great binge-watching session. With striking visuals, strong acting, and a story that will keep you hooked—you’ll definitely want to watch just one more episode—Million-Follower Detective is a must-see. Plus, it’s perfect for a quick watch, as each episode is around 45 minutes long, making it ideal when you don’t have a lot of time.
About Netflix’s New Thriller, ‘Million-Follower Detective’

Netflix
Here’s a synopsis for the show per Netflix:
When social media star Yen Wei is shot while attacking police, seasoned detective Chen Chia-jen realizes someone is pulling the strings. They’re joined by tech crime investigator Li Hsin-ping, and together they uncover a disturbing connection: a series of influencer killings linked to a mysterious online figure called Witch Baba. Baba’s unsettling predictions have all come true, including in four recent, consecutive murders.
When a series of prophecies from the mysterious Witch Baba become a viral sensation online, attracting over a million followers, Chen begins to suspect a link to his long-lost daughter. He teams up with popular influencer Lin Ting-yu to unravel the truth, and their investigation reveals a hidden past that will alter everything he thought he knew.
I’m really excited about this new series, Million-Follower Detective! The cast is amazing – Ekin Cheng, Patty Lee, Shou Lou, Chen Yan-fei, and Kent Tsai are all in it, and Shaun Su wrote and directed! I’ve read a few early reviews, and everyone’s saying the leads – Ekin Cheng, Patty Lee, and Shou Lou – are fantastic. They’re also talking about how dark and atmospheric the show is, and especially how interesting the character of Witch Baba is. Honestly, just seeing a picture of Witch Baba has me hooked – I can’t wait to start watching!
The show’s intense content could be a draw for those interested in true crime. According to a review in Leisurebyte, it offers a new take on the crime thriller, but it’s the actors who truly shine.
‘Million-Follower Detective’ Has a Lot to Say About the Digital Age

Netflix
This story offers a compelling look at social media’s influence on today’s world. It begins with Witch Baba eerily foreseeing murders of social media influencers, then explores the public’s growing fascination with true crime. Ordinary people are taking on the role of detectives, successfully solving cases that have stumped the police.

“Million-Follower Detective” also looks at how quickly information spreads online today, but it highlights a problem: false information—or deliberate disinformation—can travel even faster. It’s become easier for people with bad intentions to spread lies than to share the truth. And despite having so much information readily available, it’s actually harder than ever to figure out what’s really true.
Million-Follower Detective is now streaming on Netflix.
