“Gripping” crime thriller with an iconic lead character confirms release date with starry first look

Get ready for a thrilling new crime series! Prime Video’s Scarpetta, starring Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis, is coming soon – and a new trailer and release date have just been revealed.

Based on Patricia Cornwell’s popular Kay Scarpetta novels, a new drama is coming to screens starring Nicole Kidman as the iconic character. The show follows the brilliant medical examiner as she fights for justice for victims, hunts a serial killer, and revisits a pivotal case from her past that could make or break her career.

Emmy-nominated writer and producer Liz Sarnoff, known for her work on shows like Lost and Barry, adapted the story for television. She also serves as the showrunner.

What to Read Next

This thrilling series is a suspenseful crime story told across two different time periods.

The story follows Kay Scarpetta as she goes from being a Chief Medical Examiner in the late 1990s to returning to her hometown to take the same job and investigate a disturbing murder.

In her quest for justice, Scarpetta deals with difficult relationships, especially with her sister Dorothy, and has to overcome old resentments, both at work and in her personal life. She also uncovers secrets that could destroy everything she’s worked for.

Jamie Lee Curtis, the Academy Award-winning actress known for her role in The Bear, will play the sister of the main character. Joining her are Bobby Cannavale as Detective Pete Marino, Simon Baker (from The Mentalist) as FBI profiler Benton Wesley, and Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) as Kay’s tech-expert niece, Lucy.

I’m so excited to see how they’re handling the different timelines in the show! They’ve cast Rosy McEwen, Amanda Righetti, Jake Cannavale, and Hunter Parrish to play younger versions of Nicole Kidman, Jamie Lee Curtis, Joe Cannavale, and Monica Baker’s characters. It’s going to be really cool seeing how their stories unfold across different points in time.

Patricia Cornwell is a highly acclaimed crime writer. The Guardian calls her “one of the best writing today,” while Express compares her to Agatha Christie for her use of DNA in her stories. The Times describes her as “America’s most stimulating and chilling crime fiction writer” (according to Amazon reviews).

Kay Scarpetta first appeared in novels in 1990, and the crime series featuring her has since become incredibly popular, selling over 120 million copies around the world.

Scarpetta premieres on 11 March on Prime Video.
