Steven Spielberg is giving fans a first look at his upcoming science fiction film. Two trailers for the movie, now titled Disclosure Day, have revealed key plot points. The trailers debuted during the Super Bowl, signaling Spielberg’s return to the sci-fi genre after directing beloved alien classics like E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The 79-year-old director is revisiting extraterrestrial themes this summer with this new project.
Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor star in Disclosure Day, a new mystery film arriving in theaters on June 12th. The first trailer, released last December, hinted at the movie’s unsettling atmosphere and unique story. Instead of showing spaceships or aliens, it focused on odd behavior from animals – deer, birds, and others repeatedly staring at the characters – implying something otherworldly is at play.
The first preview was intentionally unclear about the story, but when combined with the recent Super Bowl commercial, it started to give away more of what’s really going on.
Every Key Spoiler From the Disclosure Day Trailers
Josh O’Connor Goes Missing

The first trailer for Disclosure Day hints that Daniel Kellner, played by Josh O’Connor, disappears during the events of the movie. His name shows up on a list of missing staff, suggesting he’s gone missing.
Although it might seem like he was taken by aliens, the way Daniel speaks suggests a different possibility: he likely went into hiding after discovering something incredible about extraterrestrial life.
He clearly says his aim is to reveal everything publicly and immediately, which establishes him as the main source of information in this case.

This suggests Daniel has important evidence or an object and is now either being pursued by his former employer or is in hiding. The story of Disclosure Day appears to be building a tense narrative where powerful organizations or government officials might be suppressing the truth and silencing individuals.
Sine-wave Language

In the movie Disclosure Day, Emily Blunt stars as a TV weather reporter who unexpectedly starts receiving messages from aliens. The trailer shows her broadcasting distorted clicking sounds instead of normal speech during a live news report.
Many people speculated that the sounds sounded like sine-wave language, an idea popular in UFO circles. This theory proposes that aliens might communicate using sound frequencies instead of spoken words.
Some viewers believe that the sounds Blunt makes can be heard as a message to “stay calm,” which fits with the trailer’s suggestion that something big and potentially unsettling is about to be revealed.
Although there’s no scientific evidence connecting sine-wave speech to alien communication, its use aligns with Steven Spielberg’s history of incorporating hidden messages from space in his films. Notably, in his 1977 movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind, aliens communicate through music and sound, not traditional language.
Collective Consciousness

The film Disclosure Day suggests a kind of shared consciousness, demonstrated through scenes where Blunt’s character appears to switch bodies with someone else, and by the noticeable widening of many characters’ pupils.
A key scene shows Colin Firth’s character’s pupils widening, hinting at a direct link between him and the neurological events unfolding.
Firth appears to be an opponent, cautioning Daniel that his actions will have irreversible consequences. He hints that revealing the truth could permanently connect humanity to this alien network, or lead to something far worse.

The white cables connected to Firth, and then to Blunt and O’Connor, suggest a technology that allows minds to be linked or people to be controlled from a distance.
Evidence from the first trailer suggests that Colin Firth’s character might be able to control Eve Hewson’s character from a distance. This adds to the mystery surrounding the connections between people, animals, and the alien beings in the story.
The UFO & Alien Arrival

No alien film is complete without a UFO, and while some initially thought Disclosure Day was related to Independence Day, that’s not the case.
Okay, so when the first trailer dropped, the alien ship was super hidden – just a quick flash on some screens in a control room, you’d easily miss it. But the Super Bowl ad? Totally different! They really put the UFO on display, and it ends with this amazing shot of a bright light and a classic, flat, circular ship breaking through the clouds. It was a much bolder reveal, for sure!
Since the movie focuses on communication through thoughts and subtle connections between people and animals, the appearance of a spaceship hints that the story will move from behind-the-scenes manipulation to a direct, large-scale alien invasion.
It’s unclear why Daniel’s honest confession leads the aliens to suddenly appear to everyone on Earth – or why it wouldn’t.
