Coleen Rooney looked elegant while meeting King Charles at a Windsor Castle event on Wednesday. The reception celebrated the dedication of both professional and volunteer caregivers.
The 39-year-old celebrity, known for appearing on I’m A Celebrity, has a history of supporting charities that help people in care. She’s often talked about her family’s personal connection to foster care, especially relating to her sister Rosie, who sadly passed away.
At the reception, Coleen politely curtsied and warmly greeted the 77-year-old monarch, and the two were later seen talking inside the castle.
I always say, a polished look doesn’t have to be complicated! For this event, she nailed it with a cream pinstripe blazer and perfectly fitted trousers. It was a classic combination that just felt chic and put-together, without looking like she tried too hard.
Last month, Coleen paid an emotional tribute to Rosie on the 12th anniversary of her death.
The wife and girlfriend of a famous athlete posted a heartfelt black-and-white photo remembering her sister, who died over ten years ago.
Rosie passed away in 2013 at the young age of 14, after bravely fighting Rett syndrome her entire life. This rare neurological condition causes significant disabilities.
Coleen posted a photo on Instagram of herself happily holding her younger sister, who was smiling back at her.
She captioned the family photo simply: ’12 years [red heart emoji]’.
The McLoughlins began fostering Rosie when she was two years old, having previously only provided short-term care. Sadly, she passed away at home, surrounded by her family.
While appearing on the show ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here’ in November, Coleen became emotional and spoke about the heartbreaking loss of her younger sister.
The heartfelt discussion started when Coleen’s fellow camper, boxer Barry McGuigan, 63, became emotional while sharing the story of his daughter Danika, who sadly passed away from cancer in 2019 at the age of 33.
Coleen told Dean and Oti that she stayed strong for her parents, even after Rosie passed away.
She shared that her daughter would have been 26 years old today, having passed away at the age of 14. She emphasized how difficult it is to lose a child, adding that they cherish the time they had with her.
After sharing her feelings on the show, her fellow contestants showed their support by leaving encouraging comments on her Instagram post.
As a big fan, I noticed Alan Halsall sweetly responded to Coleen’s post with a single red heart – so touching! Dean McCullough sent his love with a whole bunch of heart emojis, and Maura Higgins flooded the comments with them too. It was lovely to see so much support!
The celebrity has often talked about her younger sister, and last year she shared that her family had always recognized that ‘Rosie was unique’.
In her Disney+ documentary, Coleen spoke about how much Rosie meant to her, saying, ‘Rosie became a really important person in my life – like the sister I always wanted.’
She continued speaking to her parents, Tony and her mother, explaining that she and her family used to enjoy doing little things with her – like styling her hair and picking out clothes together. She added that she really brought a special energy to their home, and they all fell in love with her.
It didn’t take long for my family and me to notice Rosie wasn’t hitting her milestones like other children. We were so worried, and after a lot of tests and appointments, she received a diagnosis of Rett syndrome. It was heartbreaking, but it finally gave us an understanding of what was happening.
Coleen shared that Rosie faced a lot of difficulties – she couldn’t walk or talk, and was often in pain and felt sick. Despite all of this, Rosie always tried to stay positive and smile.
‘Sometimes she used to force a laugh out. I think it was just to make my mum and dad happy.
‘Gradually her brain wasn’t functioning, so she couldn’t eat anymore, couldn’t talk, move.’
After a series of health issues and a stay in intensive care, Coleen shared that her family made the difficult decision to bring Rosie home for her final days, so she could be with the people she loved around the clock.
She explained that they had one final sleepover, with everyone together, and then held a large party to honor her life.
With tears in her eyes, Coleen shared that losing a child is the most devastating experience imaginable. However, she added that looking back, they cherish the many years of joy and love their daughter brought them.
