With the return of The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix, viewers are once again following Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo). However, the latest season also hints at a promising future storyline for Lorna (Becki Newton). Season 4, which premiered in early February, concludes with a cliffhanger that could finally answer a question fans have been asking for a long time.
Inspired by Michael Connelly’s books, the Netflix series has expanded on the world of the main character, Mickey Haller, particularly by developing a richer cast of supporting characters. Lorna, Mickey’s former wife and reliable office manager, has become a crucial part of the show as it has progressed.
With Cobie Smulders (from How I Met Your Mother) joining the cast, The Lincoln Lawyer is hinting at an exciting development for Lorna.

Becky Newton is probably best known for playing Amanda Tannen on Ugly Betty, but before that, she appeared on How I Met Your Mother. During the seventh season of HIMYM, she joined Cobie Smulders as Quinn Garvey, an exotic dancer who develops a relationship with Barney Stinson, played by Neil Patrick Harris.
Although Newton and Smulders didn’t share many scenes together on screen, they were both cast members on How I Met Your Mother for one season and occasionally worked together. Even though Quinn only appeared in 10 episodes, her role was memorable. Because of their history, Smulders joining the cast of The Lincoln Lawyer feels especially significant.

Following her debut as Mickey Haller’s half-sister, Allison J. Haller, in the final episodes of The Lincoln Lawyer season 4, Lana Parrilla is set to return for season 5. The show was renewed for a fifth season before season 4 even came out, and this will allow for a compelling storyline involving her character.
Now that both Becki Newton and Angus Sampson are working on the Netflix series The Lincoln Lawyer, there’s a good chance the actresses who play Lorna and Allison will share scenes together. Lorna’s role has been expanding throughout the show, and as Allison’s character develops and becomes more involved in the plot, they’ll likely have opportunities to interact.

Season 5 of The Lincoln Lawyer draws from a Michael Connelly novel that unites Mickey Haller with his half-brother, Harry Bosch, finally resolving a major issue fans have noticed. As the show continues to adapt Connelly’s books, viewers have long wondered how it could legally incorporate the character of Bosch, and this season delivers that connection.
Okay, so Cobie Smulders joining the cast really shakes things up, especially when it comes to Allison’s storyline – some fans hoping to see Bosch might be a little disappointed. But honestly, Smulders is such a talented actress, I think she’ll be a fantastic addition to this already darkly funny show. Plus, seeing her work with Neve Campbell again? That’s a fun bonus, and I’m really excited to see what she brings to her bigger role on The Lincoln Lawyer.
