A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms boss admits “mistake” over cutting scene that was ‘soul of the story’

So, the showrunner for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms actually admitted they messed up and cut a really important scene from the original books! This new Game of Thrones prequel is based on George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg, and it follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall – played by Peter Claffey – and his squire, Egg, who’s played by Dexter Sol Ansell. It’s a bummer to hear something got left out, but hopefully it doesn’t ruin the story!

In the newest episode, Dunk is challenged to a trial by combat – a fight to the death. He must gather six knights to help him battle Prince Aerion Targaryen (Finn Bennett), after intervening to protect Tanselle (Tanzyn Crawford) from the prince’s attack.

During a Reddit Q&A, a fan pointed out that the show left out a significant conversation between characters Dunk and Steely Pate (played by Youssef Kerkour) that happened before the important battle in the book, The Hedge Knight.

A lot of fans think this part is the heart of the whole story, you know, what it’s really about. And honestly, the showrunner, Ira Parker, even said he kinda wishes they hadn’t cut it – it was actually in the first draft of the script!

Yeah, I totally get that the idea of a knight sticking to his promises is what this story’s really about. I think that’s still super central to everything, even though I messed up and skipped over that one scene… it’s not directly stated, but Dunk still acts like a true knight, keeping his word and doing what’s right.

Viewers applauded Parker’s straightforward response, with one person commenting that it was refreshing to see a showrunner acknowledge a mistake.
