You Need Less Than 12 Hours To Binge An All-Time Great Horror Franchise Before It Returns This Month

Horror films have scared moviegoers for many years, and a few of the most iconic ones have turned into long-running franchises. Films like The Exorcist, Halloween, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remain popular today, and all three are currently being developed into new projects, proving their lasting impact on Hollywood.

Popular horror franchises like The Conjuring, Insidious, Saw, and A Quiet Place continue to be successful. 2025 was a great year for new horror movies, including Sinners and Weapons. And in 2026, a highly anticipated installment will return from one of the genre’s most beloved series, featuring the original star battling a famous villain.

Why Scream Is One Of The Best Horror Franchises

I’m really excited about the new Scream movie! The original, directed by Wes Craven, came out in 1996 and totally hooked me with the Ghostface killer and Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell. It was a huge success right away, and a second movie came out quickly. It’s awesome that Paramount is still making these films – they’re clearly still popular!

Although not all of the Scream movies are perfect, the series is generally excellent. The original film remains incredibly influential, being one of the first slasher movies to successfully blend genuine scares with clever, satirical humor. This combination has continued throughout the five sequels. What makes these films so enjoyable isn’t just the jump scares, but also their witty self-awareness and playful take on horror movie tropes.

However, the Scream movies are genuinely frightening, delivering the suspense and scares that fans expect. The newer installments, Scream (2022) and Scream 6, are particularly intense and feature a significant increase in violence.

As a fan, I think what really makes the Scream movies stand out is how smart they are with the killer reveals and how much I connect with the main characters. It’s more than just a successful horror series – it’s genuinely one of the best, and I’m really happy to see the newer films still deliver that same great quality we’ve always loved.

Scream 7 Releases In Just A Few Weeks, Making It The Perfect Time For A Scream Movie Binge

With the release of Scream 7 on February 27th fast approaching, now’s a great time to rewatch or discover the Scream movies. Neve Campbell is back as Sidney, and the new film promises to connect to the entire series by bringing back characters thought to be gone for good. It’s a thrilling continuation for longtime fans and a perfect entry point for new ones.

To fully enjoy the new movie, it’s best to watch all the previous films first. Fortunately, all the Scream movies are now available to stream on Paramount+. If you don’t already own them, a Paramount+ subscription is all you need to catch up or revisit the series.

Watching all the Scream movies doesn’t take very long. With a total running time of under 12 hours, you could easily watch a couple each night. It’s even possible to watch all six films over a single weekend.

With just two weeks until Scream 7 comes out, watching the previous Scream films whenever you have time is the best way to get ready for it.
