BBC pulls two episodes of Silent Witness after real life tragedy

The BBC has decided not to air two episodes of the latest Silent Witness series following a recent tragic event in Birmingham. Episodes 3 and 4 of season 29, titled ‘The Enemy Within,’ were originally scheduled to broadcast on Monday and Tuesday, February 9th and 10th.

The new episodes follow the team as they investigate a murder in Birmingham that seems to be fueled by racial hatred. As they get closer to a potential suspect, racial tensions begin to escalate throughout the city.

On Monday, the BBC announced on Instagram that a new episode of Silent Witness was now available on BBC iPlayer, replacing the episodes originally planned for this week. #SilentWitness

Following the incident in Birmingham over the weekend, this week’s episodes of Silent Witness have been postponed. Instead, the BBC will air two episodes from later in the season.

The popular crime drama Silent Witness first aired in 1996. Emilia Fox has played Dr. Nikki Alexander since 2004, taking over from Amanda Burton.

For season 29, the show moved to Birmingham when Nikki agreed to establish a new forensic center there, bringing her team with her from London.

Before the new season begins, the BBC announced that the team will face their most challenging cases so far. Season 29 will feature five compelling stories spread across ten episodes.

The season kicked off with a highly-rated two-part episode, ‘The Disappearance of Alice Hill,’ featuring Nikki and her husband Jack Hodgson as they pursued a killer throughout Birmingham.

Silent Witness airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Past seasons are available to stream on iPlayer.
