Beautiful and “perfect” Dublin-set drama with story that ‘totally engulfs you’ is coming to Netflix

The BBC series Conversations with Friends, based on Sally Rooney’s first novel, is coming to Netflix this month. It originally aired in the UK in 2022 and is the second of Rooney’s novels to become a TV show, following the hugely popular Normal People – which starred Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones – in 2020.

Sally Rooney’s Conversations with Friends follows the complex relationships between two college students and a married couple. This visually stunning series, a co-production of BBC Three, Hulu, and RTÉ, was primarily filmed in Dublin and brought to the screen by writers Alice Birch, Mark O’Halloran, Meadhbh McHugh, and Susan Soon He Stanton.

The novel received widespread praise, and New York Magazine highlighted Rooney’s ability to make ordinary moments feel incredibly important, calling the book “a novel of delicious frictions.”
