This follows Tess Daly, Vernon Kay’s wife, saying she’s embracing a fresh start in life at 56, after she and Claudia Winkleman left Strictly Come Dancing. She feels like she’s beginning a new phase of her life.

The long-time host of a popular BBC Saturday night program noted that women over 50 are now enjoying successful careers, a contrast to previous generations who often slowed down or retired around that age.

In a recent interview with Top Sante magazine, she shared that she’s been inspired by seeing many women her age succeed and live fulfilling lives.

Lots of my friends are really succeeding and reaching new heights in their lives and jobs, and I’m also noticing many people around me starting completely new careers.

As her previous co-host prepares to debut a new Friday night talk show this spring, Tess has started her own venture – an activewear brand called Naia Active, created with her friend Gayle Lawton.

I’ve definitely noticed a shift in how people approach their careers. It feels like we’re seeing a ‘second act’ phenomenon where, unlike previous generations who often thought about retiring and taking it easy, almost everyone I know is actually ramping things up and pursuing new challenges. It’s like we’re not slowing down at all!

Tess explained that they weren’t actually struggling, but were instead exploring new talents and enjoying trying out different things at work and in their personal lives.

The veteran television host, a mother of two daughters aged 21 and 16, believes a fresh wave of female empowerment is emerging for women in their middle years.

I’m so thrilled to see what my friend and I have built together – launching this new business feels amazing! And honestly, it really feels like something big is happening right now. More and more women are reinventing themselves in midlife, starting fresh, and it’s just incredible to witness. I think it’s absolutely fantastic!

She encouraged women her age who feel creatively inspired to pursue their passions, emphasizing that they are the only ones who can bring their ideas to life.

Tess believes that if you’re healthy and motivated to try something new, you should go for it. Following your passion, even for a small, personal goal, can be incredibly rewarding.

I’ve always followed my instincts and pursued things I’m passionate about, because I know opportunities won’t just fall into my lap – I have to go after them myself.
