Marvel has been heavily promoting the various plot threads of Avengers: Doomsday with a series of trailers that have confused some viewers. Now, the Russo brothers have shared why they made the trailers so complex.
Trailers for the new superhero movie, coming out in December 2026, have excited Marvel fans by bringing back familiar faces like Captain America (Chris Evans) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth). The previews also feature characters from Wakanda and the X-Men.
The new trailers, which debuted online after being shown with screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash, surprised viewers by focusing on emotional moments rather than typical Marvel action. They highlight a touching scene of Chris Evans’ Captain America as a father and a sincere prayer from Thor.

Although some fans were puzzled by the personal glimpses into the superheroes’ lives, the directors of Doomsday, Anthony and Joe Russo, explained that releasing the trailers this way was intentional – they wanted to highlight each character separately.
In a recent interview with Empire (as reported by Slash Film), Joe Russo explained that each trailer released is a piece of the overall story. He even suggested that, for viewers, the events of Doomsday have essentially begun with those trailers.

The filmmakers have hinted that the trailers for Doomsday reveal more of the story as it develops.
Marvel fans have a few more months to try and figure things out after the Russo brothers hinted they should “pay attention,” explaining that what’s been released so far isn’t actually a teaser or trailer.

The videos released over the past four weeks aren’t simple previews – they’re actually mini-stories and hints about what’s to come. The creators urged fans to watch closely, sparking a huge reaction online. #DoomsdayHasBegun
Despite the release of four trailers, very little is known about the plot of Avengers: Doomsday. The movie takes place 14 months after the events of Thunderbolts and features the Avengers teaming up again to battle the villain Doctor Doom, who is portrayed by Robert Downey Jr.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 18 December.
