Danny Boyle superfan breaks down in tears and says ‘I must be dreaming’ as director sends her a sweet handwritten note after she revealed she’s watched 127 Hours over 1,000 times

A movie fan who loves the film 127 Hours was deeply moved after receiving a personal letter from the director, Danny Boyle.

Jess, a movie enthusiast from the US, has spent the last two years sharing her passion for the thriller film 127 Hours online. She’s become well-known in the Reddit and Letterboxd communities, earning the nickname “127 Hours Girl.”

Jess has seen the movie—starring James Franco as real-life climber Aron Ralston—more than 1,000 times, according to her.

Okay, so you guys know I’ve been, like, completely obsessed with this movie for fifteen years, right? Well, you are NOT going to believe this – Danny Boyle actually wrote to me! I’m seriously freaking out, it’s a dream come true, and I just had to share with everyone. I’m still pinching myself!

Jess shared that she participated in a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session with the director, Danny, last year. During the session, she told him how much his movie meant to her, and he replied that he would send her a card.

Jess shared that they’ve been deeply fascinated with the movie ‘127 Hours’ for almost 15 years, and that it’s a special interest of theirs as someone on the autism spectrum.

I was really surprised when Danny replied to my comment – I didn’t expect him to even notice it! And then he said he knew who I was, which was completely shocking.

However, the fan explained she never received a package from Danny until a Reddit employee saw her posts and intervened. The employee told her they had reached out to Danny’s team about the lost letter.

Jess finally got the package she’d been waiting for on Friday, and it included a handwritten note from Danny.

The note said, ‘Jess, a director views a film repeatedly during its making, and I’m thrilled – and still am – that you’ve taken the time to do the same!’

After the success of Slumdog Millionaire, securing funding for 127 Hours became possible. Otherwise, people were hesitant to invest in a movie with such a graphic and disturbing premise – a man self-amputating his arm – as some expressed.

This film means a lot to me, and I’m so glad it does to you as well. All the best, Danny Boyle.

Along with a letter, Danny gave Jess a crew t-shirt, which she excitedly said she would treasure always.

I was so touched watching Jess open the package on Reddit! She was clearly overwhelmed, and it was incredibly sweet to see her get emotional at the end. She gave the biggest thanks to Danny and all of us fans for supporting her passion for the movie – it really meant a lot to her, and honestly, to me too.

Jess shared that when she first saw the movie 127 Hours almost fifteen years ago, she had no idea it would lead to so many incredible experiences in her life.

If my high school self could see me now, she’d be amazed! I never imagined I’d become well-known, especially as ‘the 127 Hours Girl’ on Reddit, and that I’d be able to have a positive impact on others.

I’m surprised and thrilled that so many people are enjoying my passion for the movie 127 Hours. I feel incredibly happy right now, simply living authentically, and having something I love like this film makes life even more fulfilling.

I used to feel guilty about how much I watched, and I tried to cut back.

You know, for a long time I kept my love of binge-watching to myself. But once I started being honest about it, and just let myself enjoy it whenever I wanted, something amazing happened. It turns out there’s absolutely nothing wrong with indulging in what makes you happy, and honestly, it’s led me to where I am today – sharing my passion with all of you!

‘I’m so proud of myself and I know my fixation isn’t wrong. That’s never going to change.’

People were happy for Jess, and one fan shared on Reddit: ‘Thank you for letting us share in your happiness :)’

That’s wonderful to hear! Someone commented that they learned a lot about autism – including the concept of special interests – from Jess’s posts on Reddit. They said her writing helped increase their understanding of the topic.
