Grayson McIvor, a groom on Married At First Sight, has shared details about the immediate bond he felt with his wife, Julia Vogl, who identifies as bisexual.
Grayson, 34, told the Daily Mail that their wedding felt naturally perfect, easygoing, and deeply comforting right from the start.
Honestly, hearing him say it felt like a huge weight lifted. It was so amazing to finally see his vision become reality – it just made me smile seeing him so happy!
‘I was glad it turned out very wholesome. Even more wholesome than I imagined.’
As someone who was there, I can honestly say the whole day felt incredibly genuine. It wasn’t at all forced or put on – the two families just naturally connected right away. It was lovely to see how easily they clicked!
We connected immediately,” he explained. “Everything happened naturally – our families and friends just started becoming friends with each other. It was a wonderful way to begin.
Grayson was surprised by how grand the wedding was, especially when he found out the ceremony would be held at the Sydney Opera House.
A particularly memorable part of the episode was Julia revealing she’s bisexual, and Grayson shared that it hadn’t ever been an issue for him.
‘I don’t see sexuality as a label,’ he said. ‘I just see the person for who they are.’
‘If there’s a connection, you ride the wave and see where it takes you.’
Grayson said he felt an immediate sense of safety when he first saw Julia walking toward him.
He explained that he felt an immediate connection with Jules the moment he saw her. She created a sense of safety, warmth, and comfort for him.
‘That took the pressure out of the moment and let me enjoy the start of the journey.’
Honestly, before all this, Grayson admitted he was feeling… incomplete, like a piece of him was missing. He really believed in the whole idea of the show, though – he wasn’t just doing it for attention. He genuinely thought he could find something here, and that’s what drew him in. It was so sweet, and I just knew he was different from the start!
‘I had a lot of faith in it,’ he said. ‘I really immersed myself and gave everything I had.’
Grayson said he prioritized his marriage, but he didn’t always get along with everyone at the early group gatherings, especially Chris Nield, the groom, at the bachelor party.
He explained that they weren’t compatible. He felt his partner’s perspective on relationships and life wasn’t conducive to a healthy future.
However, Grayson said he still believed Chris could find love with the right match.
Honestly, I just love how he always says exactly what’s on his mind! It’s so refreshing. And you can just feel that if he found the right people to work with, he could create something truly amazing, something that would really matter. I just know it!
As they arrived at the first dinner party, Grayson said he and Julia felt good about their relationship and confident they were one of the strongest couples there.
He explained they weren’t interested in any of the distractions around them. They entered together, holding hands and concentrating on each other.
Grayson generally tries to steer clear of conflict, but he finds it hard to hold back when someone’s actions are unacceptable.
Honestly, it kills me to stay quiet! I just have to ask the tough questions and make sure people are really thinking things through, you know? I need to understand why things are the way they are, and if they aren’t making sense, I have to say something. It’s just… I can’t help it!
‘But I was always protective of my relationship with Julia.’
Later in the season, trailers reveal both Grayson and Julia crying, which he explains is because he was deeply invested in the experience.
He explained that his tears demonstrated how deeply he cared. He admitted there were many, whether from joy or sadness, and that they had given it their all.
Grayson, who was initially shown as a strong contender, isn’t concerned with how the show is presenting him.
He admitted he’d be baffled if people saw him as the bad guy, because he truly believed he was acting with good intentions.
He also dismissed any suggestion Julia was on the show for the wrong reasons.
He explained that he didn’t worry about what she wanted, but instead concentrated on what he could offer and encouraged her to be flexible and see where things would lead.
As for whether viewers should expect him to steal another bride, Grayson laughed.
He chuckled, adding, ‘The real issue is if the other guys should be concerned about the girls all trying to get my attention.’
