Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey, both celebrated actors, are working together once more after first appearing in a film together over ten years ago.
Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey appeared together in the 2014 science fiction film Interstellar, directed by Christopher Nolan. They played father and son in the movie, which is where they first met, according to Ramin Setoodeh, co-editor in chief and co-president of Variety. Now, the two actors are teaming up again for a live, online town hall event. Read Setoodeh’s thoughts on their reunion below.
Here at Variety, we’re big fans of bringing people back together! Following the popularity of this season’s ‘Actors on Actors,’ we’re excited to team up with CNN again for this special town hall. We’re really looking forward to having two of Hollywood’s most adventurous actors join us.
Fans will get an inside look at the talents of Matthew McConaughey and Timothée Chalamet during an event streamed on CNN. CNN’s VP of Original Programming, Amy Entelis, also noted that this event strengthens the network’s partnership with the outlet hosting it.

It’s been twelve years since Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey appeared in a movie together. Chalamet has been busy with roles in films like Wonka, the Dune series, and most recently, playing ping-pong champion Marty Mauser in Marty Supreme. While his performances have been well-received, he hasn’t yet received an Academy Award for any of these recent projects.
Despite not yet winning an Oscar, Timothée Chalamet has been nominated for Best Actor three times: for Call Me by Your Name (2018), A Complete Unknown (2025), and Marty Supreme (2026). Marty Supreme, also nominated for Best Picture, was directed by Josh Safdie. He did win a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, and fans are hopeful his Oscar moment is still to come.
Matthew McConaughey previously received an Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in Dallas Buyer’s Club back in 2014. He’s remained active in film, and recently appeared in The Lost Bus and The Rivals of Amziah King. The Rivals of Amziah King is scheduled for release in theaters on August 14th.
