Gerard Butler’s Greenland Sees Streaming Surge Following Sequel Redemption

Gerard Butler’s Greenland is becoming popular again on streaming services. This comes after the sequel, Greenland 2: Migration, also did well. Currently, Greenland is fourth on the list of most-watched movies on HBO Max through Amazon Channels, and it’s also eighteenth on Amazon’s overall list of top movies.

The film Greenland 2: Migration continues to perform well on streaming platforms. It’s currently number five on both Amazon and iTunes, and has moved up to sixth place on Vudu.

Despite a disappointing $25.8 million box office run compared to its $90 million production cost, Greenland 2: Migration quickly became popular on video-on-demand platforms. It remained a top choice for rentals and purchases for quite some time, and while it’s uncertain if it will fully recover its costs, the additional revenue is certainly a positive.

You know, it’s funny – I’ve been noticing Greenland popping up again lately. Apparently, the new movie, Greenland 2, is doing pretty well on streaming, and it’s actually brought the original Greenland back into the spotlight. The first one did better in theaters – it made $52.3 million with a $35 million budget – but honestly, any extra attention for a good disaster flick is a win in my book!

Greenland Sees a Streaming Resurgence

The movie Greenland had a complicated journey to audiences. Originally planned with Chris Evans and director Neil Blomkamp, both left the project before it started filming. Then, the release was postponed several times because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ultimately, it became available to rent or buy online before being added to Amazon Prime Video and HBO Max.

Okay, so I just watched Greenland, directed by Ric Roman Waugh and written by Chris Sparling, and it’s a wild ride. It stars Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, and a great supporting cast. Basically, it’s about a guy, John Garrity, his wife, and their son trying to survive when a comet is headed straight for Earth. The movie shows them facing some seriously scary stuff – cities getting wiped out, people at their best and worst – as they desperately try to reach a safe zone before everything goes down. It’s a really tense, last-ditch effort for survival, and it kept me on the edge of my seat!

The sequel to Greenland, titled Greenland 2: Migration, was announced in 2021, but faced difficulties when its distributor, STX, filed for bankruptcy. Actress Morena Baccarin was initially hesitant to reprise her role, but ultimately agreed to return for the film.

Five years after the events of the first movie, Greenland 2: Migration follows the Garrity family. Having survived the impact of Comet Clarke by finding shelter in a bunker, they now face a dangerous trek across Europe in search of a new, safe place to live.

Greenland and Greenland 2: Migration are both available on streaming platforms.
