Amazon MGM Studios has added a new actor to the cast of its upcoming live-action TV series based on the popular PlayStation video game, God of War. Currently, preparations for the Prime Video show are happening in Vancouver.
The game centers around Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they travel to scatter the ashes of their beloved wife and mother, Faye. Along the way, Kratos attempts to guide Atreus in becoming a worthy god, while Atreus, in turn, tries to help his father reconnect with his humanity.
Who is joining the God of War cast?
Callum Vinson, known for his roles in “Chucky” and “Long Bright River,” will play Atreus, the ten-year-old son of Kratos, in Prime Video’s upcoming “God of War” series. Vinson will also appear in Peacock’s “Crystal Lake,” a prequel to “Friday the 13th,” portraying a young Jason Voorhees.
Atreus was raised in seclusion, growing up in a remote cabin with his mother, Faye, and little contact with the outside world. He’s a skilled archer with a natural connection to animals and a strong desire to explore beyond the forest he calls home. After Faye’s death, Atreus is left in the care of his emotionally distant father, a man he barely knows. Despite this, Atreus deeply wants his father’s acceptance and is determined to show he can handle the challenges of a dangerous world.
Ronald D. Moore, known for his work as a showrunner, will be writing and executive producing a new series based on Norse mythology. The show will star Ryan Hurst (from Sons of Anarchy as Kratos, Max Parker (Boots) as Heimdall, Mandy Patinkin (The Princess Bride) as Odin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Severance) as Thor, Teresa Palmer (A Discovery of Witches) as Sif, Alastair Duncan (Taggart) as Mimir, Jeff Gulka (The X-Files) as Sindri, and Danny Woodburn (The Witcher) as Brok. Frederick E.O. Toye, an Emmy winner, will direct the first two episodes.
Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon serve as executive producers, alongside Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, and Ben McGinnis. The series is a production of Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. Good news for fans: a second season has already been confirmed before the first one even airs!
