Whistle Star Explains Ending Post-Credits Scene Twist

The new movie, Whistle, just came out in theaters and the scene after the credits ended with a surprising and disturbing twist. Director Corin Hardy and actress Sophie Nélisse recently talked about this scene and what it might mean for a possible follow-up movie.

This horror movie centers around a group of high school students who discover an ancient Aztec whistle. When they play it, they unknowingly attract the forces that will ultimately cause their deaths. Desperate to avoid their grim futures, they start researching the whistle’s mysterious history.

Corin Hardy and Sophie Nélisse on Whistle’s ending post-credits scene

The end of Whistle features a new young character playing the Aztec death whistle while standing in a crowded high school auditorium.

In an interview with ScreenRant, director Corin Hardy and actress Sophie Nélisse discussed the ending scene and how it hints at a possible sequel. Hardy explained they couldn’t resist suggesting a continuation, envisioning a story that would be even more expansive than the first film.

He explained that whether the audience felt threatened by the teenager’s actions was key. Hardy also mentioned the scene was initially planned for the school cafeteria, but he decided to move it to the auditorium to reach the largest possible audience.

The director admitted that thinking about what would happen after the teenager blew the whistle actually made him chuckle. He suggested that knowing the backstory and the fate of the 400 people involved could make a compelling movie on its own. Hardy added that the story’s mythology offers plenty of opportunities for future stories, and he’d be excited to continue exploring the world of the whistle if given the chance.

Nélisse also discussed the scene after the credits. She explained that her character, Ellie, and Dafne Keen’s character, Chris, both made it through the first movie, which means they can now work to help even more people.

She recognized that Chris and Ellie were under a lot of stress following the events of the first movie. Hardy jokingly chimed in, saying that footage was cut from the film showing Ellie grabbing two pairs of earplugs and giving one to each of them.

I’m really excited about “Whistle”! It’s directed by Corin Hardy, and the script is by Owen Egerton. The cast is fantastic – you’ve got Kiernan Shipka and Sophie Nélisse leading the way, but also some great actors like Percy Hynes White, Nick Frost, Sky Yang, and Michelle Fairley. I can’t wait to see them all in it!
