Most people enjoy a well-done parody. However, fans eagerly awaiting new content from a particular source might not be amused, especially if they were expecting a reveal during the Super Bowl.

This year’s Super Bowl had fewer exciting movie trailers than usual. Marvel Studios didn’t reveal any new projects, and most trailers showed footage fans had already seen. Disney’s trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu was particularly disappointing, offering little to excite viewers.

Disney reportedly spent $10 million on a 30-second commercial featuring Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin and Grogu traveling across a snowy landscape, likely Hoth. The ad, intended as a tribute to The Empire Strikes Back and the franchise’s history, was filmed like a classic Budweiser commercial with Tauntauns pulling a carriage and Sam Elliott narrating. However, many fans hoping for more significant content were disappointed by the approach.

Many viewers were hoping for another full trailer with more details about the movie, but instead, they got something lighthearted and ultimately unimportant.

Here’s the problem: The Mandalorian and Grogu is coming to theaters on May 22, 2026 – only a little over three months from now. Besides one disappointing trailer, there hasn’t been much promotion for the film. The Super Bowl would have been a great opportunity to show everyone this is a major Star Wars event, not simply another season of The Mandalorian. Unfortunately, the recent TV spot has actually made it feel more like just Season 4.

It’s almost certain The Mandalorian and Grogu will be a huge hit. The key now is whether audiences love it enough after the initial release to keep it a priority over other summer movies, or if mixed reviews will cause people to lose interest.
