As someone who loves seeing how people balance life and family, I was so charmed to see Chris Hemsworth sharing a peek into his life down under with Elsa Pataky and their three adorable kids! It’s lovely to get a little window into their everyday adventures in Australia – it feels so relatable, even for a Hollywood family.
The 42-year-old Marvel actor and his 49-year-old model wife have two children: a 13-year-old daughter named India Rose, and 11-year-old twin sons, Sasha and Tristan.
In 2015, the couple moved from the United States and now calls Byron Bay home. This relaxed surf town is located just south of Australia’s Gold Coast.
Speaking in a new interview, Chris and Elsa opened up about their relaxed lifestyle Down Under.
Chris shared with PEOPLE that they now have a large property – a farm with horses – where their kids spend their days surfing, fishing, and riding motorcycles.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m always thrilled to hear about changes that genuinely improve family life, and this one has been a game-changer for us. Honestly, having three kids means things can get chaotic, but this new approach has made a huge difference, especially in keeping our home running smoothly.
Chris shared that this change has allowed him to prioritize spending time with his family. He explained, ‘I can now focus on what really matters – being with my kids and wife, and enjoying time together.’
This follows the actor’s recent documentary detailing his father’s struggle with Alzheimer’s, which he described as a heartfelt tribute and a very personal experience.
Last year, the famous actor released a documentary called A Road Trip To Remember. It showed him and his 70-year-old father, Craig, traveling around Australia to revisit places from his childhood. The trip happened after Craig was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
This new information builds on Chris Hemsworth’s 2022 documentary series, Limitless. During filming, he discovered he carries two copies of the APOE4 gene, inheriting one from each parent. This genetic marker significantly increases his risk – eight to ten times more likely – of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
I recently spoke with Chris about his new documentary, and he shared something really vulnerable with me. He confessed that putting such personal and emotional experiences out there for the world to see was a huge challenge for him. It took a lot of courage to be so open, and he really wrestled with the idea of sharing his innermost feelings publicly.
He questioned whether he was becoming too open with the public. He worried about whether people would still see him as a tough action hero or the character he plays in Marvel movies if they knew more about his personal life. He also wondered if he even wanted people to be aware of his vulnerabilities and anxieties.
Although it was a challenging project, the actor who plays Thor believes the documentary is incredibly meaningful, especially considering the positive impact it had on Craig.
He described it as a very personal tribute, like a love letter to his father. He explained that it briefly gave his father strength and brought back memories he was starting to lose.
Chris shared that after the movie came out, people living with Alzheimer’s reached out to tell him they were glad their children had a chance to see it.
He shared that his father’s illness has really changed his perspective on work. He’s now able to take things slower and doesn’t feel the same need to constantly work and earn money like he did before.
I’ve lost some of my drive to rush ahead,” he explained. “I’m now much more aware of how easily things can be broken or lost.
It hits you that your parents won’t be around forever. My children are getting older – they’re 11 and 13 now – and the days when they used to argue about sleeping in my bed are a thing of the past.
Last month, Chris got very emotional remembering the devastating moment he learned Craig had Alzheimer’s.
He discussed his father’s declining health on Jay Shetty’s podcast, On Purpose, explaining that the diagnosis, which became apparent over the last two years, was a major shock for his whole family.
He said he clearly remembered telling me not to worry about it.
A couple of years later, my mom told me she was worried about my dad and thought he needed to see a doctor because she’d noticed some concerning changes.
He’d been experiencing typical memory problems – a little forgetfulness, mood swings, and such. He got tested and discovered he had two copies of the APOE4 gene, just like my mother.
He went on to explain that he, Luke, and Liam all inherited two copies of the APOE4 gene, which is an unusual genetic combination.
I instantly understood how difficult this was for him, because I’d recently been telling myself to ignore the problem and hope it would resolve itself later.
It appeared unexpectedly before us, and while it was a challenge, we still maintained a positive attitude and believed we could find a solution.
As things got worse, it was like a sudden awakening – a real shock. It forced us to confront the fact that everything we believed to be stable and reliable was about to change drastically.
