Jacob Elordi being compared to a “plank of wood” inspired Oscar-nominated Frankenstein role

Although Jacob Elordi received an Oscar nomination for his work in Frankenstein, he shared that a harsh comment actually influenced how he played the Creature in the Netflix movie.

The Australian actor received high praise for his role in Guillermo del Toro’s film version of Mary Shelley’s famous novel, and he’s been nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 98th Academy Awards.

Jacob Elordi’s breakthrough role came with his portrayal of Noah Flynn in The Kissing Booth trilogy. He jokingly shared that criticism of his performance in the films actually paved the way for his biggest career success yet.

I was watching The Graham Norton Show and the actor was telling this hilarious story about when he made The Kissing Booth. Apparently, someone told him he was such a wooden actor, they joked he could only play Frankenstein’s monster! It was a really funny thing to hear him share.

I initially loved the idea, and then, surprisingly, about six or seven years later, Guillermo del Toro offered me the role. I was telling this story while sitting with my Wuthering Heights co-star, Margot Robbie.

Jacob Elordi faces strong competition at the Oscars. He’s up against seasoned actors Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro, both nominated for their work in One Battle After Another. Delroy Lindo and Stellan Skarsgård complete the category with nominations for Sinners and Sentimental Value, respectively.

The actor also mentioned he’d tried out for the Australian soap operas Home and Away and Neighbours multiple times, but wasn’t offered a role on either show.

The actor remembered tirelessly auditioning for popular shows like Neighbours (twice!) and Home and Away (perhaps three times), but unfortunately wasn’t chosen for any of those roles. Despite that, they’ve since appeared in projects like Priscilla and Euphoria.

Jacob Elordi will appear with Margot Robbie in a new film adaptation of Emily Brontë’s famous novel, Wuthering Heights, before the Academy Awards ceremony next month. The film is written and directed by Emerald Fennell and is eagerly awaited by fans.

You can now watch Frankenstein on Netflix. Wuthering Heights will be in movie theaters starting February 13th. And, The Graham Norton Show is available on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
