Daniel Stern, best known for playing a burglar in the movie Home Alone, will not be prosecuted in a recent prostitution case. The charges have been dropped.
The 68-year-old actor received a citation on December 10th after allegedly attempting to solicit a prostitute at a hotel in Camarillo, California. He was not taken into custody.
Stern is due in court this Friday, where he could face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if found guilty.
Prior to the controversy, Stern had been cast in a recurring role on the new comedy Do You Want Kids?, alongside Rachel Bloom and Rory Scovel. However, after the scandal came to light, ABC told the Daily Mail that they were replacing him.
The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office has confirmed that the minor charge against Stern has been dismissed.
According to his representative, the defendant fulfilled all requirements of his sentence. He finished a court-ordered class and, as a result, the case was dismissed. This is the typical outcome for first-time offenders charged with prostitution, the representative told Entertainment Weekly.
Daniel Stern is most famous for playing Marv, the clumsy burglar alongside Joe Pesci’s Harry, in the first two Home Alone movies.
He previously revealed he had to fight to get a raise for the sequel.
After the first Home Alone movie was a huge success in 1990, and a second film was approved, John Hughes remembered the studio offering him $600,000.
In his 2024 memoir, the actor shared that he was offered twice his original salary for the sequel, but his fellow actors were offered much more – starting at millions of dollars.
He requested a higher salary from Twentieth Century Fox, noting that his co-star, Joe Pesci, was earning between $2 and $3 million.
In 2023, Stern made his final television appearance as Eli Hobson in season four of the Apple TV+ science fiction show, For All Mankind.
His most recent movie role was in the 2019 film James vs. His Future Self, which was directed by Jeremy Lalonde.
The film features Jonas Chernick as James, a scientist working on time travel. His life gets complicated when his future self, played by Stern, travels back from 17 years ahead and insists James abandon his research.
Stern announced in December that he’s left his Hollywood career behind and is now living on a farm, where he grows tangerines.
In a TikTok video, he explained that he lives on a farm where they grow tangerines.
Recently, someone harvested fruit from my trees. I’d like them to fill a container for me next time, so I can make juice, freeze it, and share it with my friends.
‘I just wanted to show you what is it like, here are our tangerines, there is my bucket.’
He shared a video of one of his sculptures—which gained over 1.6 million views—showing his progress on the impressive artwork.
