Renata Pozobon, a Brazilian social media personality known as ‘Human Barbie’ because of her many cosmetic procedures, has had her body exhumed so doctors can perform an autopsy to determine the cause of her death.
I was shocked to hear the news about Barbara Jankavski. Apparently, authorities recently exhumed her body from her grave in São Paulo. It’s all because a court ordered an investigation into whether she was actually strangled, according to reports. She was only 31, and it’s just a really sad and unsettling situation.
Her family had pointed to markings on her body that indicate she may have died from asphyxiation.
Police discovered Jankavski deceased inside the residence of Renato Campos Pinto de Vitto, a 51-year-old public defender, on November 2nd.
Authorities had previously ruled her death accidental: a heart attack from cocaine use.
In early December, a São Paulo court directed that the investigation into her death be transferred to the Homicide and Personal Protection Department, the branch of Brazil’s police force that handles murder cases.
Prosecutors had asked for more tests, including neck X-rays to check for strangulation and DNA testing under Jankavski’s fingernails, to see if she had tried to fight back during an attack.
The influencer gained over 400,000 followers on Instagram and TikTok by openly sharing her journey through 27 cosmetic procedures, including a facelift she detailed in June. She often discussed beauty standards and the significant changes she’d made to her appearance.
A CNN Brasil report based on police statements indicates that De Vitto admitted to hiring Jankavski for sexual services on the night of her death, and that they both used illegal drugs.
He said he realized she had stopped breathing after falling asleep, so he called for help and tried to revive her with CPR for nine minutes until paramedics arrived, who then confirmed she had died.
Police in São Paulo found Jankavski wearing only underwear, with a left eye injury and marks on her back, CNN Brasil reported.
According to a report, a friend said Jankaviski’s facial injury was caused by a past slip and fall.
A police report obtained by CNN Brasil reveals that Renato Campos Pinto de Vitto stated he’d paid for sexual services from Jankavski the night she died, and that they both used cocaine.

Police in São Paulo found Jankavski wearing only underwear, with an injury to her left eye and marks on her back.
A friend told authorities the facial injury may have resulted from a previous slip and fall.
The Public Security Secretariat (SSP) stated that Jankavski died due to cocaine use.
According to expert analysis, the victim died from poisoning by a chemical substance, the agency stated.
The SSP added that investigations are ongoing and remain under the 7th Police District (Lapa).
Prosecutor Michele Demico Camargo agreed with a request from attorneys Cristiano Medina and Leonardo Santos dos Anjos to send the case to a jury trial, according to g1.
They asked for the case to be moved from the 7th Police Precinct to the Department of Homicides and Protection of Persons, as that department has more experience with murder investigations.
The outlet reports that a judge will decide if Jankavski’s death is being investigated as a potential murder.
According to reports from TV Globo and g1, lawyers for the family and the Public Prosecutor’s Office are investigating an injury to her left eye and marks on her neck, suggesting possible physical abuse.
They allege she could have been punched and strangled while at the lawyer’s home.
Her legal team intends to ask for another review of the forensic evidence, and they’re even exploring the possibility of exhuming her remains. They believe the level of cocaine found in her system might not have been fatal.
Other people were present at the property, including a female friend of De Vitto and another man.
De Vitto stated that he did not assault Jankavski, and claimed she was hired for sexual services.
He stated they both used cocaine, and that she hurt her eye after falling, then fell asleep and didn’t wake up.
The Military Police found her half-naked with visible injuries.
Investigators spoke with experts who believe De Vitto’s injuries could have happened during the fall his friend described.
According to g1, the family of Jankavski has expressed concerns about the investigation, asking why forensic tests weren’t performed on the three individuals who were inside the house.
Investigators also wondered why they didn’t collect any DNA from under her fingernails, as that could show if she had fought with someone.
The family further raised concerns about the police not seizing cell phones for forensic analysis.
After the incident, De Vitto took a medical leave from their job at the Public Defender’s Office, explaining they were experiencing post-traumatic stress.
The office confirmed he remains on leave and is not currently performing his duties, per g1.
